Carbon fiber ss hood?

I am looking at a carbon fiber ss hood. Does anyone have one? Would you have to put hoodpins on it? I had one on my vr4 and that hood seemed like it was going to fly off if I took the car 70 mph

I've never seen a carbon fiber one, i have a fiberglass SS hood and it's very light. I've gone 160+mph and it's still on there IMO hoodpins are mostly for show.

I have never liked hood pins. I want to refrain from putting them on the car. On my SS I never had a problem but I think with the carbon fiber I might run into trouble??

My experience has been that air gets under the lighter hoods and tries to lift them off the car more readily than a metal hood. Especially if there is a hood scoop. You see them fly 50 feet in the air at the drag races when they come off.

That's crazy, are these carbon fiber hoods or fiberglass ones? Lt1 and Ls1, you mentioned the SS hood, don't forget those are not 100% fiberglass and they are a whole lot heavier.

True. I guess I will have to buy an after market fiberglass one. The factory ss hood on my SS never even fit right, I can only imagine what an after market one will look like!

Please do. That would be great! Thanks for your help! My projector halo's will be in this week and I will be upgrading the bulbs. Hopefully I will be able to see out of them. Then I am going to get my hood and give it a new paint job, mystic teal metallic. That color really grew on me

I found that guy, here's a list of what he's got for sale right now http://shop.ebay.com/camarohawk/m.ht....c0.m14&_pgn=1
I don't see a 98-02 SS hood but you can always shoot him an e-mail and see when he's getting another one.

Little advice, don't cheap out on a fiberglass hood, you will be very pissed off if it doesn't fit right and it will look like ***. When i get home i'll post some pics of how mine turned out.

I have no clue, i mean that is VERY cheap for a fiberglass hood, almost to good to be true. Does the seller have any negative feeback on his hoods?

I'd be very wary of a hood that cheap. You'll probably make up the difference in cost trying to get it to fit right.

In terms of using hood pins, most of these aftermarket hoods are light enough that when they try and lift, the area where the hood latch is isn't strong enough to hold it down, the latch rips out of the hood, and the hood flies open. If you don't like regular hood pins (I hate how they look), try looking up Aerocatch hood latches.
