Question Carbon fiber or fiberglass?

So which would you get, not factoring in the price, for a new hood? The style will be the same regardless, just a matter of which material. I am repainting the car this summer and it will remian black. With that in mind, it shouldn't look tacky with the carbon like it might going with a lighter colored car. One concern is the latch seperating from the hood and I don't want to use hood pins. I know the chances are minimal, but I have read where various people have had problems and either lost or damaged the hood among other things.

Re: Carbon fiber or fiberglass?

With cost not being a factor, I'd choose carbon fiber. It is generally lighter and would shave a few pounds. It is considerably more expensive if the part is 100% carbon, as opposed to only having an outer skin that is carbon.

The drawbacks to carbon--aside from price, it is not as tough as glass. Unpainted glass laminates will turn white when distressed. This is a good visual indicator that something needs fixing. Carbon is not transluscent and gives no visual indication of damage until fibers begin to break.

It's actually $1100 and that happens to be the one I am looking at I am not so much concerned with with weight savings as having something different, or a little less common, while still looking good.

Yeah, VFN will make any of the hood molds they have no in carbon for about double the price. I've been talking to them about doing a copy of the 4" Ram Air hood on my TA in carbon.

Well, with the paint color staying black it should be so bad with it unpainted. I was just in Cruces last week, I didn't have time to look you up. I wanted to see the HID setup. Are you going to run nitrous on the new motor?
