Yeah I was on the phone with the San Diego shop about a year ago, they still get the stuff from Japan so it's relatively expensive.

unpainted CF is lighter then unpainted FG, ususally you dont paint the CF

Painted carbon fiber weighs more? My plan was to get the hood and paint it to match just to save weight. Looking at the cost, and the fact it would weigh more I guess that option is out.

How does the cf weigh less than a fiberglass hood unpainted and wiegh more painted that doesn't seem to make sense

Because maybe (not sure just speculating) you need some type of coating or different prepping before the paint can STICK to it...

So I guess that is the reason.

from what i have seen its damn near impossible to paint carbon fiber. It always turned out to look like a tinted carbon fiber hood. For example if you try and paint it red it turns out with a reddish tint in the carbon, looks goofy.

you hhave to use about 3x the paint and 3x the primer to make it look 1/2 as good as fiberglass.. the more paint you use the heavier it is..


What i was saying is Both hoods unpainted. CF is lighter..
Both hoods painted the FG is ligther

personally i want it for looks i think itd look good onmy car.. weigh isnt an issue..
