car shot with paintball need help

car got shot with a paintball on the driver side door and now i guess becasue of the cold weather the paint is starting to flake off
it just started of as kind of like a circle about 3/4 of an inch all cracked but now it is bubbling and the paint flaked off a bit

is there anything i can do to stop it from flaking off more till i can afford to get the door painted

sand off all the flaking paint and rattlecan it with some primer. They sell primer in all kinds of colors now, so you can probably get something pretty close to what color your car is.

If you want a hold over until you get to do what casper suggested you might try wiping the area that is affected with Kerosene. The oils in it will definately prevent rusting, and may help with the flaking. Be careful not to get real wild though, because it may dull your clear coat. But it won't eat your paint off, like gasoline would. I have done this before on vehicles about to be restored to keep them from rusting any worse, and it helps.

But casper's suggestion sounded pretty good.

Nah, the primer already makes a good moisture barrier.

I think if you spray clear on primer it may not look glossy. Never tried it.

a bunch of high school queers were doing this, when i was visiting my parents. Undercover cop got them, had 3 of them crying right in front of my parents house. Looked at them and siad "Better hope you didn't shoot my Z". Lucky for them they didn't. Pretty sure the cop would have let me slap them around a bit.

I thought paintballs were waterbased, and would just wash off? I didn't know paintballs could do that kind of damage! And I thought eggs were just bad

Aren't the doors made from fiberglass? The paintball probably bent the fiberglass a little, then the paint cracked. At least you don't have to worry about rust.

I played paintball for 3 years in the novice division. My winter car ('94 ford explorer) has been hit many times and it hasn't done a thing to it. I can't believe (well, I mean, I do believe, but its odd) that paintballs did that to your car. Paintballs will dent (I mean come on, going 300 feet per second it'll dent a lot of stuff), but they SHOULD wash right off. Even a lot of the brands won't dent, but some stupid brands like brass eagle, marbalizers, and winchester make really thick paint and it could dent...But I've never heard of it doing this...I'll start parking my car away from the field.

i duess i should have added this in the first post
the flaking isn't from the paintball paint itself it was from the impact
it started out as a small spiderweb like circle about 3/4 of an inch
then when the weather started to get cold it came up a bit and is now just starting to flake but i dont want it to anymore

I should have clarified myself a little better in my first post I suppose...after I re-read it even I thought it sounded like I was saying do it to prevent rusting, but figured no one would take me that way...so, in case you did, what I was saying was - "I know it [kerosene] will prevent rusting, but it may also prevent the flaking...
That sounds better...just to clarify that up, and help devoid any marks of utter stupidity that might have been stacking up against me...

This post is 100% useless...so I will just say, for Streamline's sake, I still like casper's first idea...
