can an lt1 intake manifold be chromed?
can an lt1 intake manifold be chromed?
I'm like half way done polishing an lt1 intake manifold and I have like 30 hours into it. I'd rather chrome it and be done with it. Can aluminum be chrome plated? has anyone done it?
btw I think my polishing is only going to stay shiney for like a week, that another reason.

Yes, aluminum can be chrome plated. Not exactly cheap.
If you've already polished it, then I'd probably opt for clear powdercoating over chrome. Won't be as shiny as polished but it'll look good for a long time.

Consider anodizing as well, in a color that you like.
Also, consider powdercoating.
If you end up saying f*ck it and painting it, use EQUIPMENT ENAMEL. Not engine enamel, not anything else. EQUIPMENT enamel. It's common in rural areas where people use it to protect farm equipment that sits outside. It DOES come in rattle cans as well, and is about the toughest paint I've ever seen.

You could chrome it, but consider the heat implications-I had mine polished years ago and still doesn't look bad, of course I don't drive my car much. I would have it polished and then use some kind of protective coating, like a spray on or maybe zoops.

My intake has been polished for eight or nine years and still shines up nice in a few minutes with some aluminum polish. I doubt chrome will hold up as well.
