C5 rims rubbin a bit out back on turns...

Car is dirty, but I wanted to take a couple shots to see what the F body crew thinks.

http://www.pbase.com/darsven/rims&page=all

I have 10.5 inch rims in the back with Kumho MX 295/35/18's (58mm offset) and 9.5's up front with 245/40/18's (65mm offset) and no spacers. I lowered it with an Eibach Pro Kit...

I am having a little trouble in the back when I accelerate into a turn. When I turn left and gas it, I rub right rear on the inside, when I turn right and gas it I rub left rear on the inside.

I found yesterday that I am rubbing on the flashing between the fender and chassis a little, but I am also rubbing on a little "bump" or peak that sticks out in the front inside part of the fender well, like this irregular little lump on both sides.

Flashing looks easy to fix, but I am wondering about the "lump". Although it is only rubbing a silver sollar sized mark, I am concerned about hammering it in because it is probably sticking out for a reason.

Anyone know how to remedey this problem. Tell me if you ran into it too. Can I put poly bushings in my panhard and get rid of the thrust angle shifting that seems to be pushing the chassis against the wheel?

Let me know, and let me know what you think of the look.

Thanks! - D

That wheel actually has a slightly larger backspace than a 17x11 50mm offset ZR1, so it isn't surprising you have some rubbing.

Yes... poly bushings in the panhard rod will help... but first check the side-to-side centering of the body over the rear axle. Since your car is lowered, there's a good chance the body has shifted to the right, and the spacing isn't the same on the left and right sides. You need to check the spacing from the inside edge of the tire to some rigid part of the chassis, like a part of the subframe. If the spacing isn't equal on both sides, an adjustable panhard rod would help.

The inner fender can be hammered pretty heavily without damaging anything. The one area to be VERY careful is the front part of the inner fender, which has the latching mechanism for the rear seatback right inside the sheet metal. Make sure your seatback is latched in place so you don't deform the latch area and make it difficult to put the seat in its upright position.

The "raised" section is right over the jounce bumper - is that where it is rubbing? If you take a careful look, it should show that if you jack the car and let the axle go to full drop, the jounce bumper bracket will catch on the inside edge of the wheel. With the 17x11's, I cut the bracket back far enough so there was just enough room for the screws to stay in place. Then hammer the bump in the inner fender sheet metal.

I have some pics of the carnage:

THANKS MAN!

That upper piece of metal flashing and a small portion of where you hammered is where I am having the rubbing!

I am not so scared now. I think I will "massage" my fender a little tonight.

I will let you know how it came out!

Appreciate it...

mine was rubbing in the same spot and it only took a few smacks with a blacksmith' s hammer and it was good to go. I put some rubberized undercoating on where the old stuff popped off. You can hardly tell its been massaged.

Sounds like you can use an adjustable panhard bar. Most people consider it a must with lowered cars anyway.
