Brents Decals - holy crap decal removal

ha... well just got in a new set of brents decals for my emblems and rear fill.

had light silver on the car and decided to try out the brushed alluminum... which might i add really does look like the real thing . but man that vinyl sticks good.

i put the decals on mid winter and this winter and figured they wouldnt really be sticking too good seeing how it was in 30's when i put them on. But 3 hours later i finally got all the decals and adhesive off. i tried mineral spirits and rubbing alchohol but that didnt touch the adhesive or the stubborn part of the decals left on car.

best method i found was take a straight edge razor and carefully slide under decal and work down on the eblems scrapping it off making sure not to go into the emblem. I then used some goo gone on the adhesive... let it dry, and was able to just rub it away with the base of my thumb.

Anyway, I can now attest to the high quality of the decals and how well they stick.... and love the look of the brushed alluminum..

Goof Off or Goo Gone works great for removing the adhesive left over. If you heat it up and pull it the right way though, it shouldn't leave much at all.

I do agree Brent makes some great decals. His directions for putting them on were also very good...I love my rear inlays

Hey Kingman109, what size are your rims? I'm sorry to hijack your thread but I've got a black 96Z that desperately needs wheels and I think yours look sharp . I'm guessing they're the C5's? Did you get them off ebay?

Again, sorry about the hijack, but was just curious.

Also, if someone could post a link to Brent's site where I could pick up a set of those polished inlays, I'd appreciate it.

ha no problem

as for the rims they are C5 Y2k's Chrome. i bought them off a board member actually with nittos for a really really good price... 1000$ shipped.
as for size they are 18x9.5's all around and i am running 275-40-18's on all four for now... and thanx for the comment.. .i really love them, waiting for some money for a WW kit and 3/4" drop.

as for the goo gone / goof off... ohh i know the miracle of these products i used to sell them. i really didnt have any tools with me such as a heat gun so that wasnt a choice... and even the goo gone wouldnt take the adhesive completely off... i had the reflective vinyl so not sure if that made a difference... essentially i had to use the goo gone to make the surface tacky and then used my thumb to make it stick to itself and pull off...

Re: Brents Decals - holy crap decal removal

Thanks guys!

Also, I HIGHLY discourage use of a razor blade for decal removal. YIKES!!!! hahaha

Best way is to start a corner with your fingernail then peel them off. Peel off as much as you can and as slowly as you can so you get the "most per peel" You'll have some residual adhesive left behind but ignore this for now. As you know, this is a bugger to get off... but, only if you aren't using the correct chemicals! If you use, as already suggested, Goo Gone or Goo Off or one of those type products, it will MELT the adhesive away for you in seconds. Important part about the use of this stuff on paint is 1) DO NOT SCRUB it. Let the chemical do the work and just gently rub the rag with the chemical over the adhesive and it will come right off... don't scrub it! 2) Do NOT do this in the sun. Make sure the paint is not hot to the touch. It can be warm but just not hot. You should hever stick anything on your paint if the paint could cook an egg

Thanks again and glad you like the new inserts

Yeah, that reflective vinyl has a "thick" adhesive that has in it (I think) the stuff that makes it reflect. The adhesive is so thick that even Goo Gone has troubles sometimes. Best thing to do in this case is use your fingernail and make a couple "swipes" through the adhesive... this allows the chemical to work on more than just the "top" of the adhesive... lets it work on the "sides" too

Re: Brents Decals - holy crap decal removal

I just recently took off my rear insert decals from brent (sorry brent) and did that peeling from the corner method. i had no complaints.. it was pretty easy. dont get me wrong tho, those decals were on pretty good. just gotta use the right method and have some patience i guess. i didnt use any heating or razors (which sounds pretty scary)!
