braided hose covers
braided hose covers
anyone have any experience with these (or similar). i'd like to start to dress up the engine bay and want to go with the polished/chrome/silver & black look.

Re: braided hose covers
Wire loom is a lot eaiser. With the braided hose stuff you have to disconnect one end of the wire or tube that your going to put it over. And there are about 1-zillion wires in the Camaro. It just looks like a big pain in the ***. Go with the wire loom, it will install in about 5 minutes (One side is split open, so basically just pop it on). I did my engine bay in white, check it out on cardomain (link below) to get some ideas. This stuff only cost me $10 and I had PLENTY left over, maybe took 30 minutes to do the whole thing. With the stuff you want, I wold guess it would be an all day project or more.
Re: braided hose covers
Things to consider:
1. There's an incredible amount of hassle involved in this. Getting the sleeves onto the hoses is the easy part: the hard part is draining, cleaning up spillage, bleeding, and refilling all the fluids that run through these hoses that you're taking off and reinstalling that's the royal PITA. If you've never R&R'd a set of power steering hoses on an LT1 car lemme tell ya, you're in for a real treat. And that's just ONE set.
2. Real braided stainless hose cost $$$, and you usually don't see it on engines unless the owner spent $$$ money to build it. There's a word to describe people who try and make their cars look like they spent alot of $$$ on it, but really didn't. They're kind've like those people who wear fake Rolex's...

Re: braided hose covers
Yea I agree with THESOUNDANDTHEFURY in that it is going to be a lot of trouble. Also, as CHRISBEQUICK said a stock engine bay with some modding looks better than over doing it IMHO. But it is your car and you can do what you wish; so if you like it, go for it.
Re: braided hose covers
thanks for the input guys. really appreciate it. i figured these hose covers were gonna take a lot of time to put on considering everything has to be disconnected - an since there's only 4-5 car shows a year that I'll hit where people will see 'em, they're not gonna be worth the effort.
pinball-1 - that's a nice clean looking ride you got there. the engine bay is really nice and tidy. where did you get the wire looms and do you know if you can get them in silver/grey color (that's the "theme" i want) - also, how did you make the battery cover? that looks sweet. nice job man.
chrisbequick - again, sweet ride. love the black z with all that shiny stuff under the hood. that's what i'm going for. where did you get the battery cover and the rad shroud.
thx guys

Re: braided hose covers
BlackM6Z28: Thanks for the compliment on my car.
I got the wire loom at the Iola Car show in WI this year (dont know if you have heard of it or not, but it's big). I think they had grey but I'm not positive. I know you can get this stuff at autozone or similar car parts stores, but it will cost you alot more, I would guess around $10 for about 6' of each size (3 different sizes are needed). I got 4 rolls of about 8 feet each for $10 (great deal).
The battery cover I made myself. Just took a piece of sheet metal and cut and bent it till it was finished (it was actually my first time working with metal). Sad thing is it isnt in the car right now due to the colors conflicting...I'm gonna have to repaint it sometime along with the plate in the center counsel thingy that I made too
