Black around the headlights

I wanted to get some kind of general concensus as to what I should do......my car's going into the body shop on August 1st to get the front fascia repaired and painted, and I'm thinking about some options for the flat black painted part under the headlights. I was just gonna tell the guy to repaint it flat black, but then again I was thinking about making them the color of the car (polo green metallic). What do you guys think I should do? I like both looks, but my only concern is that all the Camaros I've seen with the headlight black painted the color of the body, the area between the fog lights was painted body color, also. I'm not sure if it'll look funny with that remaining black and the headlights painted green......I've been unable to find pictures of Camaros like this so if anyone out there has one, I'd like to take a look at it. Thanks for the advice in advance.

I would do it all the same color. Ive seen a white camaro with the front all white and it looks nice and clean not being broken up by the flat black.

Paint it the color of the car also.

Just looked at your car, you should get rid of the licence plate if you can, and also buy some clear corners. That would be a nice front end when youre done

I have the same color car as you and have seen a couple of guys who painted the area around their headlights the matching polo green and I don;t think it looks good at all. I'd stay with flat/gloss black. I believe it gives a nice accent with our color.

Re: Black around the headlights

Go with flat black or gloss black. Doing body color just doesn't work for 4th gens imo. I saw a red one and a yellow one and neither looked good at all. Jmho
It's your car though

i would paint it gloss black...body color looks bad on most colors and flat black looks unfinished

Re: Black around the headlights

Early 4th gens look like ^&*% with their "eyeshadow" not painted black, I hate seeing that done ALMOST as much as I hate seeing billet grills and wings west commando spoilers Also, when you try to sell your car sometime, people will ask you immediately if the car has been wrecked and repainted if it doesn't look stock. You're not going to be one of those guys who leaves the Camaro nose emblem off too are you? :-\

Re: Black around the headlights

LOL thanks for all the input guys, it's much appreciated. I'm starting to lean towards keeping them black, but then that brings me to another dilemma......gloss or flat? I know the Camaros that came in black always had gloss black "eye shadow" and all the other color cars had flat black. I've never seen a non-black Camaro with gloss black eye shadow before......I've asked my dad and my brother-in-law and they said if I was gonna keep it black, keep it flat black. But I do think gloss black would look real cool.....I just wish I could see a picture of it.

Re: Black around the headlights

There are pictures of guys having gloss black. I had mine repainted flat black to keep it as stock looking as possible. Now I'm starting to regret it as it scratched easily and doesn't have that "stunning" look that the gloss black does.

Re: Black around the headlights

See, my only problem with doing something other than stock is it'll probably cost me money out of my pocket. The body work/repaint is $925 and that's how much I got from the insurance company for the accident.....so if I go in there and tell the guy I want the flat black re-painted with gloss black, I'm not sure if that'll be included like a flat black repaint would be.

Re: Black around the headlights

I've never seen a body colored headlight treatment that I liked.

If you like to look at your car that way - go for it.

Re: Black around the headlights

Since your car is polo green, I would go with a semi-gloss black (if that is even available outside of Testor's hobby paint lol). Why? Because your car most likely already has trouble with looking dirty even when you just washed it a few days ago, so I would avoid the flat black, since it tends to look a little dusty. I would just definitely get it painted black of some sort.

Re: Black around the headlights

Paint them black. I've seen several cars with them painted body color and every time i see it, i just think the car was wrecked and a crappy paint job was put on. Even though the paint work might be nice, thats just the thought that comes to my mind. It doesn't look right. I'd personally go with flat black but thats just me. They should paint it green first then black, so you should just tell them you want to see what it looks like with just the green on first. When i had mine painted i was thinking of going flat on the headlight areas but then my painter said to wait and look at the car with them not painted first. I decided not to paint mine flat black, but my car is black so i can pull it off.
