I've seen rubbing alcohol remove Trans Am and bird. However, these areas are slightly raised and indented. In order to get rid of it completely you'll need to use some fine sandpaper, rubbing compound, and glaze. If you don't want to go to that much trouble, send me an email... I might have a solution for you

I'll move this over to the Appearance Forum because this was recently talked about over there.

Step aside, Brent.....I can handle this one

I have removed the bird you speak of and replaced it with a reflective bird from this site.

You will need to wet sand the bird off. Buy some 2000 grit sandpaper from Pep Boys or Sears Hardware, get a bucket of water, and some rubbing compound.

Wet down the plastic first. Then, dip your 2000 grit paper into the bucket to get it all wet. Start sanding the bird and plastic area. It may take a while for the bird to come off, but elbow grease and persistance will do the job right. Make sure the paper is wet a lot, and dip frequently.

When you can see the bird is gone, you will say to yourself, "Holy ****! The plastic has a bunch of scratches in it!" That's where the rubbing compound comes in. Just rub it all on, let dry, rub off, and repeat if neccessary. Then, stand back and look how clean and shiney your black plastic panel will be! Mine was shinier than before.

Good luck!

LOL! That's why I moved it here... I knew somebody was talking about sanding it

You pointed him to that site that has the vinyl birds. I can make similar except I designed my own to be exact duplicates of what is already painted on there so they are kinda like "overlays" with no sanding required. I designed the bird and the "TRANS AM" in the following picture.

Brent, thats some nice work. (as usual)

I've just got one question for the original poster: Why would you want the bird to be OFF of the back? I paid like $50 in decals on my T/A to make sure it had badges. To each his own I guess.

TheV6Bird, thats a cool site.

How are you liking the reflective emblems? That just gave me an idea. I want to get 2 of those firebird decals (the ones where the wings of the bird are solid but the bird is outlined) and put them on that small triangular looking aprt of your frame right behind each front window.

Do you know if they make lettering in reflective as well? I'd like to have Trans AM reflecting on my sideskirts or a little above.

i took mine off without wetsanding...

i did use a polishing compound that hat cut to it though...AND an orbital buffer, came right off...and left it shiney however, as brent stated above, you can still see F I R E B I R D in embossed letters in the right sun, i think its kinda cool like that, i left the bird in the middle however and touched it up with some paint I like the look of just the bird in the middle, though others may not

My reflective emblems are pretty cool, but make sure you use a heavy concentration of soap in your soap and water mix when applying. My soap wasn't enough, and now my bird is crooked enough for others not to notice, but enough for me to say, "****!!" One or two corners of the bird wings are coming off, but that's nothing a little glue won't fix!

Are you talking about that small, black plastic piece on the bottom right hand corner of your driver side window (bottom left for passenger)? If so, I don't know if they make birds THAT small. Browse around the site. Your best bet would be to use the small bird decals that some people put on their wheel centercaps. www.firebatscave.com makes those little guys.

As for lettering on the sideskirts, they make them to fit over the TRANS AM badging, so it looks like a different color, and reflects at night. Check the site again.

Sometimes, autografics.com goes througha stage of being GM licensed, then not being GM licensed, and so forth. If it says, "PENDING LICENSE", I'm sure they will sell them sooner or later. That's what happened to me; they didn't sell, so I waited until they did.

Nah, i don't know how to explain what I'm talking about. Its not part of the windows, its RIGHT behind the windows and its part of the body of the car. Then, after that, the rear windshield is glued on. If you've seen sfgiant18 or whatever his username is, he has reflective chevy emblems on that part of his car, look him up and you'll see.

Why get rid of the bird ??

Hey guys,
First off thanks for all of the ideas. That's what I love about this site. Anyway The reason I want to take off the bird between the tail lights is because I'm thinkin about airbrushing a tribal bird. I need a clean suface to paint on. I just wasn't sure on which would be the best way to remove it without messin the plastic up. (((Now if I could only figure why my gauges don't work)))

Thanks again,
Cmbob67

Would it be in this pic? That was the part I was talking about before, the small black plastic piece. If so, then my other post has the stuff I suggested before.
