Best way to prep for painter??

Just wondering what the best way is to prep my front bumper for the paint.

Do i have to sand it all off or is there some kind of stripper i can use that wont damage the panel?

I mainly just need to get all the paint off so i can save some money from having it painted.

If i do sand it what kind of grit do i need to use and do i do it in steps or what?

Asking the person you are going to get to paint it would be the best thing to do!

agreed, every painter does a different routine to prep a car, different cleaners, tar removers, grit sandpapers, and it all depends on how bad the paint is, if you are just lookin to save a few dollars, its prolly not worth it, but if you wanna save some time from him paintin it give them a call an find out their process

if you really wanna take the paint off but not go through to the primer i would use no less than a 220 grit paper on a DA sander, then hit it with a 320 grit to smooth it out.

Alright well i called him and he said to do it all in 400 wet or dry Grit sand paper.

Now does that mean go through the prime or what? Do i need to call and ask him that to?

Also is it ok like you said to go ahead and use a 220 then go back over it with a 400?

Be very careful though! It's possible that by trying to help, if you mess up it might cost more

My dad is in construction and he always had an hourly rate that would go up if the people watched and then went up even more if they tried to help. LOL!
