Anyway to integrate a GM DVD/navi unit into 97+ Camaro?
Anyway to integrate a GM DVD/navi unit into 97+ Camaro?
I see stock GM DVD/Navigation units for sale on ebay all the time like ones out of newer Cadillacs or Pontiac Vibes. Well do any of you know if it would be possible to get those units to work in a Camaro? Here is a link to an auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38653
I see the large connector on the back of the unit looks very similar to the radio connector on the stock Camaro headunit and other GM headunits. The green one is for the GPS antenna. Do these headunits have any external devices for them to work? Does anyone have any ideas as to if something like this could work?
I know there are other ways to do this such as Alpine, Kenwood, Panasonic etc etc which all have nice TV, Navi, DVD, CD units that have the screens fold in and out, but I have always liked the stock look and built in screen in the dash. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I'm sure there's an aftermarket unit that's similar for much cheaper, $1400 is a lot to spend on something like that, if you want the pure functionallity of it just get a handheld gps for $300 and get one of those stupid cell phone holders to hold it on the dash. That unit It probably won't fit right. Not to metion you won't be able to wire it.
What a couple of idiots, the seller said "I took it to the stereo shop right from the dealer". What kind of moron would take such a $2000 unit and replace it with some junk, If he didn't want it why did he buy it? It then cost him more money for a replacement and now he's got some piece of junk that probably doesn't play dvds or has GPS. He probably paid over $2000 for that option. What a moron, I would write him an email and tell him how stupid he is, but i bet the truth is the darn thing is stolen and he is just lying about the whole thing. and I can't believe some idiot bought it for $1400, If someone can't figure out that the thing is stolen then there just as stupid as that story, I should write an email to the buyer. It's like people can get away with anything on ebay, stolen goods all over.

Yeah I know a aftermarket unit would be much easier to instalkl and hook up, but I still like the stock appearance. Im not really looking to buy anything like that now I just saw it on ebay and thought I would ask. I didnt really think about as deeply as you did, but your probably right about it being stolen. No tool would spend all the money for that option to have it pulled out for some ghetto aftermarket setup. I wouldnt anyway.
Anything is possible depending on your fabbing skills . But ....1 BIG hurdle though would be getting a switched power source to actually turn it on . With GM's EVIL class 2 serial data communications any GM navigation system or even a stock radio from "most" 2000-2002 and ALL 2003-2004 GM cars will not work in cars that do not have class 2 communications ( 2000-prior ) , due to the fact they do not get their on/off power from a switched 12v power source ( ign. ) they recieve a digital signal from a body control module that gives them on/off power .
Aftermarket would be easier by more than you could imagine
