Anyone tried this?

Don't know if this will even work, but I miss my standard tranny so much I thought about buying a 6-speed shifter insert for the center console and switching it with my auto insert. Do these line up the same? I know that it will still only move back and forth, but it would look like a 6 speed....

So will it work, or will park/first hit the front/back of the console?

Maybe this is why the ashtray is in the front on autos and rear on sticks?

Re: Anyone tried this?

Its no biggie--just switch the insert, not the whole console. If it gets involved though, I'll take pics.

Jeremy

Smokin5s--are you saying it will work because you've seen it or beacuse you figure it will? I don't want to buy the part if it won't work.......

I swapped my car from an auto to a manual and when I ordered the manual insert, they gave me the 93-96 insert instead of the 97-98... I have a buddy who has an '95 with an auto and he asked if he could have it because it wouldn't fit on mine.... so we put it on his car... it looks pretty cool... it's on his car now actually.... the only issue is you can't manually shift into 1st with it on.

I never call rice but i think i'm gonna have to do it this time. Thats about like putting those covers on that make your car look like it has big brakes or a fake blower pop off.

How is using a factory GM shifter boot in a matching interior color RICE?

Whats really funny is a statement like that coming from a guy who has an aftermarket hood, wing and 18" chrome wheels.

I bet your hood is probably carbon fiber too...

Those are appearance mods. People usually consider rice trying to make your car look like its faster, or having fake parts just to fool people. Pretty soon you'll be driving around with a recording of a cammed car because that sounds cool.

Z95M6: White turn signals seem to be considered rice so its funny you called this rice. (I like your car btw). Adding a six speed shifter plate to an automatic is just plain retarded though.

hey, I do that... nothing wrong with that...

as far as the shifter cover.... it's not faking anything... it just looks nicer IMO than the Auto cover... anyways, he asked if anyone had done this, I don't recall him asking your opinion on if you liked it or not.

I understand no one asked if i liked it but sometimes i just have to try to snap you people back into reality. If you want a better look just upgrade to a newer console. There are some mods that are tasteful and make sense but this one doesn't. I think its cool when people with vintage cars slap in newer trannys but keep the old shifter or something like but trying to fake an auto to look like a manual is just gay. Lol are you gonna put a fake clutch pedal down there too.

Re: Anyone tried this?

By the way if anyone wants to do this mod on a 93-96 car if they buy me a 97+ console i'll let them have my old 6spd insert for free.

Re: Anyone tried this?

I don't see anything wrong with it, if it looks better go ahead and do it.
