You should be able to strip the paint then polish them up real good...or am I missing something there?
Has anyone done anything interesting to their stock wheels at all? (I'm broke and my wheel paint is chipping)

You can clean them up nicely with some chrome polish. That's what I did all summer. Basically any detergent to remove dirt and brake dust will work.
If your finish is starting to go, then you can take them to a wheel shop and have them repainted and clear coated. You'd have to ask around for cost, because I've never had it done, but I've heard anywhere from 50-100$ a rim. You can get it painted any colour you want, so you have a lot of options there.
