anyone ever take the door trim off?
Re: anyone ever take the door trim off?
Just took mine off today actually, my digital camera got stolen awhile back or I'd offer pics. Looks great with them off, they were the only part of my car that showed their age so its awesome now that they're gone. Heat them up either with a hair dryer or let your car bake in the sun for awhile, the warmer they get the easier your job, just pull them up starting at one end, dont worry about any adhesive left behind. Roll the adhesive off with your thumb (they will be pissed at you for a day or two after) and then wash underneath where the molding was to remove any dirt. Since my adhesive was 12 years old there was still a bit left on the paint so i took some bug and tar remover too it and with a bit of elbow grease it came off. Wash it again and you're set

Are you talking about the kicker panels if so ,you u dont need floss or hair dryer, they are held on with clips, about 8 or so... but i wouldnt take it off really doesnt look good unless u fill those holes the clips go into with bondo or somehting and repaint it.

Not to revive an old post, but this is a great idea. I found it in search after my wife noted that my white TA looks ugly with the yellowing ruber strips along the door. It came of easy with fishing line, and my thumbs have a few blisters but it was easy. God I love the search function!
Re: anyone ever take the door trim off?
I found this thread and inspired me to do the same. I decided to post pics for anyone who found this thread. The car is a 93 Z28 with 123K miles. The paint wasn't perfect under the trim. It looks like the trim was put on while the paint was still wet. The driver's side did very well. The pass side had a few spots of paint pull off with the trim. If I was going to do this again I would use fishing line. I used a Popsicle stick to pull off the trim. I also recommend a chair because this takes a while.
1. Use fishing line to remove trim.
2. Use thumb to roll off most of adhesive. (My thumbs hurt while I type this)
3. Use soap and water to rinse of dirt.
4. Use some sort of adhesive remover and a rag to remove remaining adhesive.
I just bought the car and haven't even washed it yet.
Before.

After I removed and cleaned the first piece.

What I used. I ran out, get a bigger bottle.

Trim removed. The black stripe on top is mostly dirt. The gray is the adhevise.

Re: anyone ever take the door trim off?
I ran into a a little problem the area under where it is says on Z-28 the pass side had been repainted. The paint left a visible black line where it mixed with the dirt under the moulding. It you look at the pics you can see where it is a different color. Even with the line it still looks a 1000x's times better.

i wanted to take mine off for the longest time and finally did, looks so much better, do it you wont regret it, and its pretty easy, mine peeled right off, then took a towel and rubbed at the sticky stuff back and forth until it all fell off, took 20 minutes with my friends help
