Unhappy 96 SS #1664 is no longer perfect...

Going back to work today (pulling an open to close to get more $$$ b/f my NROTC aviation crusise next week) and my t top flies up...I grab it...the handle snaps...the top smashes up against my driver's side rear quarter on it's way down to the median where it promptly shatters.

As pissed as I am about all of this, it could have been worse. It could have hit another car...or I could have wrecked trying to do more with two hands, etc. So from that standpoint I am feeling alright.

I just really wish it would have cleared the car.

Anybody have this happen to them? What's the best bet for a t top? Used or get it from the dealer (more $$$ of course). I think this is covered under my comprehensive (acts of God...i.e. hail, wind, etc) but what's the best route?

I'll snap some pics when I get off tonight and show the damage.

Oh well...she's no longer "perfect."

Had to happen sometime being a daily driver (albeit a 'sunny' daily driver...I drive the 93 Corsica when it's wet or Nov-March).

Just thought I'd bitch a little and look for some pitty.

Later,

John

Re: 96 SS #1664 is no longer perfect...

I'm sorry to hear that! I've had one of my t-tops take flight before on the freeway while going 70. My dad didn't latch it down good enough so he heard some wind noise and rolled down the window to have the t-top fly off. I swear it went about 30 in the air and came crashing down. Some how, some way, it landed on the rubber part and didn't break. It did slide off the road and got some deep scratches in it. I make sure I lock them now every time.

It does really suck though that it didn't at least fly up and miss your car. Hope it can all be sorted out quickly, I hate to see another wounded SS..

Thanks, man. Nice ride by the way.

Got pics up on the webshots site. Just click on my sig, then SS Pics, then scroll to the bottom 3-4 pics.

If you need a new rear quarter, I have a brand new one I've been trying to sell.

Thanks for the offer. I'll look you up if it comes to that, but I'm hoping it will pop out and buff out. We'll see soon enough.

You should try going to a paintless dent removal place so that you don't have to have the quarter repainted.

I just figured any body shop would be able to do that kind of work. Am I wrong in assuming everyone has paintless processes of their own? Lemme know.

Thanks,

John

take some solvent to the black marks it left, if you dont see any cracks in the paint, you should be able to get it pushed out by a reputable company

that doesn't look too bad at all

i too lost a t-top, it flew up and hit the rear spoiler but didn't do too much damage -- shattered all over the road however.

reputable company...like a dealership or dealer body shop? or someone that specializes in paintless dent removal?

Thanks again,

John

$734.00 for a new t top from a local chevy dealer. Is this the price I give the insurance company...and then just get one off of here or ebay? What is in my best interest?
