2000 Allstate 400 Brickyard pace car Camaro
Is this for real? I have never seen a Camaro pace car like this before (monterey maroon OR with these decals), and how it ended up in Italy I have no idea. WTF
http://www.autoscout24.nl/Details.aspx?id=vgsbybgxcyaw
I've requested the VIN so that I may see if the car is an original export Camaro, or was a conversion. If someone speaks the language or can figure out how to translate, please ask them for the VIN.
This is blowing my mind, as #1 I have never seen or heard about such a pace car, and #2 why is it an export Camaro when the race was held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway?

The logos look so legit that I know they had to come on something else. It's confusing though. Why would somebody in Europe be such a fan of the Allstate 400 that they would customize their Camaro?
I'm going to assume it's fake, and I have to admit, it's the best fake I've ever seen. It looks very legitimate looking.
A whole lot more legitimate than some other likely fake pace car Camaros I have seen.

Link to someone selling a 2000 SS convertible "Brickyard" car:

The whole issue is that those were two different races as far as I know--Allstate 400 and Brickyard 400.
While they made festival cars for the Brickyard in 2000, which were made available for sale after their duties, they obviously did not make dozens of festival cars for the Allstate 400 if this pace car is legit, otherwise this wouldn't be the first time we've seen one.
Supposing this is legitimate, which I doubt it is, (because why would they use an export Camaro?) I would assume it is 1 of 3 at the very most. GM tended to provide three near-identical pace cars for races.
I'll email Scott and find out what he thinks... I don't know any NASCAR fans who could remember a pace car from a race 9 years ago...

Well, August 5, 2000 (the date on the car) was on a Saturday. The Brickyard 400 is usually run on Sundays (as was the race in 2000). This car (or at least the sticker) must be from a car setup for the Busch Series race, from the day before. It does not match the stickers on the Monte Carlo n2ceptor referenced.
It seems very unlikely that a European spec Camaro would have been prepped for pace duties. As well, who's every heard of Busch Race pace cars being "special editions"? Based on this, I'm speculating that the car pictured is an export model with decals (obtained-from-who-knows-where) applied after the fact.

Wikipedia indicates that the Brickyard 400 was renamed the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, in 2005. Which makes it even more unclear, since the decal on the subject car clearly indicates the correct date of the year 2000 race.
The Brickyard 400 is an annual 400-mile (644 km) NASCAR Sprint Cup points race held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana. The event, when first held in 1994, marked the first race other than the Indianapolis 500 to be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1916. Since the inaugural race, the Brickyard 400 has become NASCAR's most-attended event, drawing an estimated crowd of more than 250,000 fans annually. It also has become NASCAR's second highest paying race in dollars (behind the Daytona 500).
The term "Brickyard" is in reference to the nickname historically used for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1910. The course was paved in brick in 1909, and a three foot strip of brick remains exposed the start/finish line. From 2005-2009, the race was known as the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, under a naming rights arrangement with Allstate Insurance.[1]

Okay, that's a really good point. I hadn't scrolled down on that link to discover there were pictures of the cars. The previous logos are NOTHING like this one.
The logo on the sides of the maroon Camaro appears to be this 2009 logo, but with the dates changed and logo recolored.
I think we can 100% decree this a fake pace/festival/support car.

The mystery thickens.... it wasn't known as the "Allstate 400" until 2005. The history of the race confirms that it was originally run on Saturday, and changed to Sunday in the later years.
So.... he has a logo that matches the 2009 style logo, but in different colors. He has the correct date for the 2000 race, but the race was not called the Allstate 400 until 2005.
So.... the decal would have to have been made from the file for the 2009, with the date changed, as pointed out above. You can download the logo file, but its very low resolution.

Yeah, I think we solved this one using facts now, instead of just a bunch of assumptions. It's still a cool looking car, but it is obviously a complete fake because the logo design isn't consistent with what was done in 2000.
Cars like this aren't always fakes, so when you see a Camaro with pace car type logos on it, you have to be open minded. For example, this Camaro was used as a support vehicle at the '94 Brickyard 400, and there was a black one similar to it supposedly. You sure don't see cars like this mentioned as a special Camaro anywhere, but cars like this exist.
