1997 camaro ss slp hood

Some time back I crashed my 1997 ss camaro and recently I brought the car to a body shop for repairs. The body shop of course said it would be no problem to fix. That was three and a half months ago. The issue was the slp hood. They tried to fit two aftermarket hoods on the car and neither would align correctly on the car. Now of course I'm weary of any aftermarket hood except a slp original. The body shop did a fantastic job with the repairs and the owner recommended strongly that I hold on to the car and wait for a slp hood to pop up somewhere. He said try to keep it original. Finding that slp hood has been like tring to find a needle in a haystack for me. Does anyone have any idea where I can find one, or has had the experience of tring to replace that hood with a suitable sudstitute? I appreciate any input.

Last I heard, the 1996-97 SS hood is only available from GM.

I think SLP use to sell them but now that they don't sell them your only choice is to buy used or aftermarket.

You'll need to get one off a wrecked SS in order to have an OEM one likely.

Re: 1997 camaro ss slp hood

I am in the process of repairing a project 97 SS that was also wrecked in the front. I looked for three months for an OEM slp SS hood with no luck. Trying to get an individual to ship one to me was a nightmare, shipping was going to run a couple of hundred dollars unless I used Grey Hound and I don't trust them with a hood worth close to $1000. I ended up purchasing an aftermarket hood from American Sports Car Design/ Stinger fiberglass. The hood appears to be a perfect factory match. I am less than one week from test fitting the hood. Once I do I'll post pictures and let you know how well it fits.

Plenty of good fitting aftermarket hoods out there. Just not the cheap *** ones.

Yeah I figured the body shop was trying to get a cheap aftermarket hood on the car. The salvage yards don't give much info on the hoods I'm looking for and if they think they have it they are reluctant to ship from my experience. Last week I checked out the stinger hoods and from the description it sounds that the hood they have is a direct replacement for the SS Camaro. 97silverslpss let me know how that hood fits when you get it on. Thanks every one for your input thus far.

A real SLP hood will say MADE IN CANADA in two spots on the underside of the hood. One is on the driver's side near the back, and another is just behind a ridge where the air intake seats onto the hood.

Re: 1997 camaro ss slp hood

Got the hood mounted up last night. I could e-mail you a picture if you like, but it doesn't have the fenders on it at the moment. Hood looks great. My car was had significant driver side fender rail damage that me and my painter have repaired with new parts.

That being said, I didn't even expect a factory hood to line up perfect. However, once we shut the hood with the fenders temporarily hung in place it matched very well. The hood matches the body line of the fender all the way up to the side view mirror within 1/32nd of an inch. The panel gaps are slightly tight so we plan on removing about 1/16th of an inch off of each side of the hood. The hood has plenty of material there to do so.

The hood matches my donor car’s hood perfect and I would suspect that it would bolt directly onto a car that has never been wrecked.

My painter is also happy with the quality of the hood. He said they are normally a pain to prep for paint and he expects no trouble with this one.

Can you find out how much the shipping was? They just say truck collect, and I emailed and they didn't even respond to me several months ago. I dont want to be stuck with a few hundred dollar shipping bill or something

It can be between 150 to 300 bucks depending-slp vs. other aftermarket hood.
