18x10.5 in the rear....any modification needed?

Well....next year, I have a deal coming up where I'm getting 2 18x9.5 Chrome Z06 rims for the front...and then I'm going to put 18x10.5 in the back. I like the idea of having 295/35/18 rubber out the back. But my question is,......will I need to do any serious modification? I hear I'll need a BFH for some pounding.

Well, some people get lucky and some don't.

If you have lowering springs that drop the car anymore than the SLP springs or the Eibach prokit, you'll need to shave the bumpstop or do a little pounding in the wheel well.

Honestly, I think you'll be ok if you aren't lowered too much, and TONS of people run 11" on the back, and you are talking about 295's and 10.5"s not 315's.

I'm running 285's right now on 9.5" rims back, 275's on 9.5" on front. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT BACKSPACING, this is key. I'm moving up to 10" or 10.5" this coming year, and i'm lowered.

Do some searches on here or ls1.com for great threads on the subject.

Stock springs. I think I'll be ok. I'll worry about the offset when I get closer to ordering because I won't be ordering the rears for a long time. It's going to take me a while to save up for em while paying for the Z at the same time. But any information in this post will help regardless, because my friend that I'm buying the fronts from is doing the same thing to his. He has 18x9.5 all around and is selling me 2 of them and going with 18x10.5 in the rear as well.

You CAN fit a 295 on a 9.5" rim. I have them on my C5 rims. They look just fine. Also, they should fit just fine.

The Z06 18x10.5's have a 58mm offset, according to the chart in VETTE magazine. If you work the math, that makes the backspace about 1/10" bigger than the popular 11" GS offset 17's. That means that you will have a tiny bit more pounding to do with the Z06 rims. But, some people claim they can put the 11" GS wheels on with no problems at all. I had to hammer the fenders and cut off corner of the jounce bumper brackets with my 17x11's. Point is, each car seems to be a little different, depending on assembly tolerances, how well centered the body is over the axle, etc.
