is this what I want for the easiest install? The 36.5mm offset will make the rims stick out farther, correct? Is there a difference between the ZR1's w/ a 50 mm offset and the GS w/ a 50 mm offset?

Just to keep things in perspective.... the difference between 50mm and 36.5mm offset is only 1/2". IMHO that 1/2" is enough to make the difference whether the wheels look good on the car or not. I think mine (50mm) are borderline. I think another 1/2" looks worse. But some people prefer to deal only with the problem on the fender lip, rather than hammer the inner fenders, so they pick the 36.5's.

I searched for pics of the rims with 36.5mm offset, but couldn't come across any. I don't think I want to screw with rolling the lip, b/c painting is expensive.

I just got my 17x11 ZR1 rims with 50 mm and my 17x9.5 with 56 mm and 315/35/zr17...275/40/ZR17 tires from Autumn Fleet Sales of Canoga Park,CA. They put them on with NO SPACERS or other mods. Just bolted them on and Drove away. They had to do no mods to make them clear and also they do not Buldge out like the 38 mm or 36.5 mm. I found the store of Brent's site so good luck to those who would like these rims on their ride. This is by far my most favorite mod so far and best traction mod yet!

Cool

You got lucky, Ryan I had to do a few "modifications" on my car to get them to fit
