F.S. PCMCIA card to serial port adapter. Great adapter for tuning!
F.S. PCMCIA card to serial port adapter. Great adapter for tuning!
I bought a PCMCIA card to serial port (RS-232) adapter for my new laptop. I no longer need it and am selling it for $50. Here is a link for the card http://www.startech.com/ststore/item...CB2S650&mt=p40 This card is great for tuning programs such as LT1Edit and Datamaster on a newer laptop without a built in serial port. E-mail me at JeffLT1Z28@msn.com.

From the pic they have on their site, this has a printer port and not a DB9 port.... Is the pic wrong or does it not have the right port to use tuning software?
If it has a DB9, I may be interested.

Looking around and stumbled on this.
Care to elaborate a little? Great for tuning? This seems to say different.

. I just purchased a new laptop as I had been using a buddies old laptop with a serial port. All the guys from the board had been recommending a PCMCIA card instead of the Belkin USB adapter. I went ahead and purchased the card recommended and could not get it to work with my new Gateway laptop. So I posted that question on the board. I tried out my roomates Dell laptop and it worked fine on his computer. So I gave AKM cables a call and talked to Andrew. He said it was a windows software issue in the computer. Andrew now makes a USB to ALDL cable and offers a upgrade if you purchased the old serial style to upgrade to the new USB cable for only $30! Sounded like a great deal to me so I am upgrading my cable and no longer need the PCMCIA adapter. The adapter worked flawlessly with my roomates Dell laptop the reason behind my title in the posted question. I am sure if I new some computer savvy person or had Andrew try and talk me through it I could have gotten it to work on my Gateway. But, Andrew offered the USB upgrade which sounded easier to me so I took that route.

Cool. Thanks for clearing that up. Also noticed Andrew was doing this so I may go that route to eliminate problems that could arise with an adapter.
