X vs H

Looking for opinions on two different aspects of these two exhaust balance setups.

Power: We all know an X is supposed to be better, and a buddy tells me in a mopar magazine he read they tested a Dr gas X over a high flow H and it made some 20rwhp more. Dont know if I believe it, so where do you guys stand?

Sound quality: I recently heard two different '03 cobras with same mods, same exhaust, but one had high flow H one had an X, and the X car sounded like crap, very raspy. Does this happen on all cars, or was this Rustang specific?

Im planning on running jethots into 3" cutouts; into 3"duals; X or H; into Moroso style spiral bullets. Im more concerned on the exhaust that it is relatively quiet compared to best flowing, but dont want the system to be a total dog on the street. BTW check sig, Ill have enough flow for 3" I think, not just a cammed 350

ive had both.

x = slightly more power , can cause resonance at certain rpm's

h = more refined, smooth sound

i switched to the H and never looked back. when it comes to driving my car around all day, i would much rather hear a sound i enjoy, and i dont miss that extra 5-10rwhp or whatever i lost.

Hey if you're getting Dual Cutouts, then would it really matter?

You heard my exhaust on Friday, right? What did you think?

I'm going the simple/low cost route this year. Cutouts off of my Hooker LT's, 3" pipe feeding into Dynomax bullets, then dumping before the axle. I'm curious as to what I'll be loosing out on by not running an H or X pipe at all. Should have it done soon, just gotta get the headers re-coated.

not having a balance tube between them means you cannot take advantage of scavenging effects of exhaust gasses.

depending on your setup, it may not be a big deal........and if you are high enough in power already....losing 10-20 hp isnt gonna matter, cause you cant even put it to the pavement anyway.
i see a lot of high hp drag cars without balancing tubes because they are already like 800+hp, they dont care if they lose a little because at that level, suspension it what gets you the good times.

FWIW, i doubt you will lose much at all. ive seen dynos of the different pipes on the same car (moderate power level), X-pipe was about the same as open headers, and H-pipe was slightly lower than both.

Nope; I gotta work, and didn't take the day off since my car isn't put back together. My roomate and a bunch of my COFBA buddies are going though....rumor has it there should be some real quick cars there; there are always a few sub 10 second cars, and sometimes a 6-7 second car.

Well, just picked up a 10' section of 304 Stainless today $42!!, normal going rate is at least $10/ft for any gage stainless. Made my H-Pipe tonight and TIG welding it up tomorrow. Haha should be the best looking exhaust around Well see how it performs up against the cutouts in a few weeks.

Think I should run the cutouts right off the collectors? Or I think they should go after the H before the mufflers?

I would say right off the collectors, Open headers!
