X pipe and H pipe
Re: X pipe and H pipe
Those ball and sockets are sweet. I used a set on my last application and the fit was very nice.
Two bolts with no gasket thats the most simple set up out. A+++
Spintec or Super 40?

Re: X pipe and H pipe
I remember car Craft did an article on this in 2002 July.. They took a Mustang with a 5.0L and ran long tube headers only, ran long tubes with h-pipe, ran long tubes with x pipe in third place was the H pipe, in second place was the long tube headers only, and first place beating out the long tube headers with no other exhaust was the long tube headers and x pipe.. it was +3 torque, three Dyno runs in a row.. I will try and find the article, I belive they said were to put the X pipe...

Where is your X- Pipe is relation to your headers? Are you running long or shorty headers? How many inches from the flange to the x pipe? This info would be critical..
Re: X pipe and H pipe
Well I think my mind has ben made up on the dual 3in exaust set up for my ride. Starting from front to rear it will be hooker long tubes, Mr Gas X pipe as soon as exceptable, Both tubes running side by side, BMR crossbrace with the curve for clearance, Both tubes over the axel, BMR relocated panhard rod for clearance. And two super 40s out back with some tips of choice.
What do you gus think? Im working my 396,Lt4,610 hyd lift,300cfm heads,6500 rpm,300 shot set up.
The car did 600rwhp 700rwtq 250 shot on the turn downs but that is unbearable at times.
I would like to tone it down a bit.

Re: X pipe and H pipe
I have dual 3" on my own Camaro, but recommend the 4" Mufflex to everyone that asks for the following reasons:
1. You are going to all the effort to merge them together with an X-pipe, why split them back apart. Clearance issues & rattles are more of a problem with more pipes & little room to put them.
2. You mentioned Flowmaster 40 series mufflers..... where are you planning to fit them? There is not much room to fit 2 under the rear of the car. If planning on mufflers at the rear bumper, you are size limited to approx 6 x 6 rectangular to keep them from rattling. If you use straight through mufflers approx 6" dia., they will fit, but the noise will not be much better than dumping them under the car.... I know, I have this setup. A Harley with drag pipes is quieter.
3. The drivers side pipe is hard to fit high enough in the trans tunnel due to the torque arm. If you come over the drivers side of the rearend, a replacement panhard brace is needed for clearance. If your car is lowered, the rear will likely contact the left pipe on larger bumps or with a rear passenger.
4. I hope you are getting mandrel bent pipe & not crimp bends... if so your 3" will flow no better than a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust anyway.
I know the thought of duals has a nice theory & unique presence to it. Personally I do not think I benefitted from this over a single 4" & have come to like the Mufflex sound better than my own car. Just passing on some real life experiences from the past 4 years of driving. Hope this helped somewhat.

Re: X pipe and H pipe
The single pipe set up doesnt sound the same. True duals gives a small block carburated sound.I think the reason for the x pipe is better scavageing from exaust pulseing back and fourth. If it just merges it will just create a low pressure area going to a divergent shape. What is better?
Do you guys with the single set up get a lot of poping lean sound?
Spintec or flowmaster?
I just measured the rear of my bird and there is 8" of space between the tank and fender. I had a picture of someone who turned flowmasters sideways in that area.
Trying to find the pic.
