Mike Moran is the MAN
This is killing me>>
quote:
After several conversations with Warren Johnson, Jeff Stange at Strange Engineering, and many other driveline gurus, they all thought Moran might be a few aces shy of a full deck since no one had ever broken a 1350 U-Joint which is designed to handle 4300 ft/lbs of torque without shearing.
This caused Moran to second-guess himself but then a "light" went off that while the motor isn't making over 4300 ft/lbs of torque, if you combine that with the multiplier of the transmission, it is well over the limit.

HTH is that thing considered a street car? Can you imagine that driving down main street?
{edit}
I know that is kind of a neive (sp?) statement as it is just a racing class, but wow, why don't they come up with a better name for that class of racing. Sorry to get off topic, very cool article btw.

What year was that, Jeff? 2002?
The owners name just slipped out of my head but I think it was a W2W built car also. Still this day I keep a look out for 6 second, 210+mph capeable care on the local streets.
well i dunno about 'best'
maybe if it was a 632bbc instead of 540 and had two 106mm turbo's instead of 91
maybe thats just in my world, hehe
so was the gist of the article that nobody would race him because he is not legal to the outlaw pro-street class? sorta strikes down another definition of 'streetcar'
maybe the rules are biased toward supercharging but oh well, gotta go with the flow to race

I have met doug a few times, and even helped turn a wrench on that car at Cecil County MD NSCA event's. last i heard,it made just a tick over 2100hp on the engine dyno, and that's with twin t88's,he wants to step up the turbo's,but until late last year he couldnt get the power to the ground.
Heck Denny
Moran was driving this Monte at last years Dream Cruise!
I was at the Starbucks coffe just south of 13 mile. Federal Mogal had a display set up at that store and what did I see but This bad boy heading north on woodward from the 13 mile light. He went down and did the flip at dugons and into Starbucks.
Ya Jaws were on the ground!
Your so right Denny, we do have some sick rides rolling the burbs of Motown. Last summer I saw more six and seven second cars, well know cars out for local cruise nites and the WDC..
...more than ever!
Jeff
Ps..
Kinda makes me wonder what this years Woodward Dream cruise will be like with the NSCA moving the stanton race to the following weekend after the WDC so the "StreetCars" could do some cruising
