I think it will run... and I think it will be somewhere between "good" and "bad".

Why the open chamber head?

BTW- Canadian bacon is good stuff, thanks.

The Comp 305 is barely acceptable for a track-only car and I wouldn't even think about putting it in a 327... not if you plan on driving it.

What is the actual displacement on your pistons? ".240" doesn't tell us much of anything.

The carb is too small for that cam (305). Not necessarily "too small" for a 327 but just not a carb that matches what you'd be trying to achieve with that cam.

A few more questions:
Are you rebuilding this engine?
Have you thought about using a hydraulic roller cam?

You say this "327" came out of an 81 Z28?? If the engine is original to THAT car then it isn't a 327. Which brings us to yet another question.... what are the "factory heads" in this case? Is it a pre-68' 327 with smog heads or is there just alot of confusion going on here???

All this 327 talk reminds me how much I liked my old L-76 vette. The old solid cam motors were cool.

Red face Re: wondering if i should?

Worry about the converter once you've figured out which cam you should use. They work hand in hand.

Destroked a 350 to 327.

I have to ask... why?

I'd chunk the heads and go from there. No sense in spending money on an engine with a bad set of lungs.
Where exactly are you headed with this build? I don't believe I can help you any further till you divulge a little more information. Is this a street driver or a race only? Maybe a little of both... maybe just a weekend car? How much does the car weigh?

Re: wondering if i should?

Say peak HP was @ 5K with the 350, you wanted peak to be, say 6K with less cubes?

Is that what you meant by high revving? You can make anything turn RPM
