Post What would cause an intake manifold to blow off the engine

Moderators, I am not sure if this is High tech, but I didn't know where to put it. My buddy had his buick turbo blow the intake off the engine, I suspect he may have been pushing to much boost, or maybe the timing is off. What would cause such a violent explosion, he said it made a large bang.

I've seen nitrous do the same thing. That's only after a major backfire.
I would assume it would be possible with to much boost also.
