What are all the theories behind performace...
That SAM one looks sweet...too bad its in texas. And it takes 3 years and like $35k! Wow...hehe, well worth it though. So no one knows of any respectable ones out here in California? That's kinda surprising. I guess we don't have EVERYTHING! Thanks for all the help! Is there anymore?

The classes at sam can be finished in about 10 months. You have a one month orientation class which will teach you a great deal that you will have to know to get through the lectures and labs in the other classes and after the orientation you can start both the block class and the head class and take them together to finish sooner. THey dont have their cnc course or even the equipment yet but maybe within a year or two. There is financial aid and government grants and government and private loans which is what I did to pay for it. I am almost finished and havent made one payment yet. All in all I will owe about 24000 which is less than the price of most cars and gets me an education and connections that have already allowed me to secure a good position at a race shop. I guess it all comes down to " how bad do you want it?"
Nothing wrong with researching the topic but I have to agree with Bud that the basics are pretty simple.
Something that caught my ear was a NASCAR call in program last week on the Speed Channel. I was channel surfing and didn’t get the question but it was easy enough to figure it out by the answer I was hearing.
It seems in the last twenty years NASCAR engines have pickup up over 200 hp. The driver said this was due to R&D in the camshaft and head flow areas. He pointed out the basic engine design had not changed at all and that the gains were in the upper rpm range. Power down lower was not effected.
Guess the jest for a N/A engine is more air flow due to higher rpm’s in head work and matching camshafts. Think this is the direction I'm going to go with my next rebuild.

dano, is there any more info you can drop on me since you are currently enrolled there? Like...do they help with housing, maybe a job out there...stuff like that. I was kinda thinking that maybe I could get my engineering certificate, almost done with 1st semester, and then go there. I REALLY want it, but it's a challenge, plus money is always a problem. How do you check out all the grants and what not? I'd love to go there. Also, is there a 2-3 week christmas break or somthing? I'd like to come home(home is in California AND Missouri
)and visit family for the holiday. Thanks man! And any other info would be awesome!

Yeah we have two weeks off for christmas break, two weeks for spring break and two weeks for summer break. As far as extra information goes you can contact the school by calling and talking to Lydia, she can answer your questions about financial aid. I applied through Key Lending Resources over the internet and got enough money to completely pay for one course and got 3000 dollars extra to live on. There is an appartment within a mile of the school where I live now called Castlewood Appartments that will set you up with a roomate or two if you want one so you can split living expenses. The school also has relationships with several area businesses which hire students to work part time to help pay the bills.
Kettering
LTLHOMER chose not to go there because he didn't like the way the co-op schedule worked.....school 3 months, co-op 3 months, etc. He wanted his summers off to drag race, so he took a scholarship to LTU instead.

Great school. LTLHOMER (on this board) was offered a scholarship to it and we went for their open house when he was deciding whether or not to accept it. They definitely have an automotive bent to their program and they should, it used to be called GMI (general Motors Institute).

('66) GMI alum here. We used to race during the co-op work sections.
