Valve spring questions

springs should be 225# seated and 625# open, mine are checking 250 and 650.

Will this be o.k. or do I need another spring? I can't get any more height with what I have. I have a +.050 valve and +.050 locks Eveything is installed at 1.90.

They will loose 15-25LBS after the first few heat cycles.
It is better to be over sprung than under.

Only if you use old school springs and the parts don't like each other. I've seen springs come off a motor after a 24hr race and lose 4lbs!

And those cost how much???????

I have used the $500.00 + springs but as you know most of these guys won't pop for them. Ya can get TIT for about a grand and they aren't suppose to loose much but look at the price.

Yea I'm old school, but having been there at the time to see what was and wasn't is a definite advantage.
Now all I have to do is keep up with this new fangled stuff to see how it compares and relates.
15-25lbs is NOT uncommon on the "kit" or average everyday performance spring as most are not of great quality.

These....

http://www.pacracing.com/Dual_Spring...Set_of_16.html
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ISKY-...mZ290086574322

Either one of those should last, $400 a set.

If they don't want to buy those then I guess they really don't want the cam to perform.

We use the Isky Tool Room's on all our race motors, and I see about a 15lb loss after a full season(30-40 hrs)

The standard chrome-silicon stuff will lose about 10-15 after a couple weeks.

I am using a set of these right now in an engine.
Like I said 4/500 for a good set of springs. Logic doesn't prevail the average guy to spend more on springs than he does his cam.

If the heads are off have someone sink the spring pockets 0.050 on a serdi machine. Then you can shim it back in. Have the machinist check the spring pocket area above the port though and make sure you aren't going to make it to thin.

The price of a set of 16 TIT valve springs new is $1825.00-springs only.

Putty is cheap but not so with springs, grasshopper.

Isky's tool room series is made from PACalloy. We make some of their springs, and PSI makes the others. THe PSI stuff is still made of the same material.
