Vacuum To Mechanical Carb Conversion?
Vacuum To Mechanical Carb Conversion?
Is this possible? The ol' screw in the linkage trick apparently is a bad idea, but I was thinkin, if you got the linkages from a mechanical carb, and a Proform main body for a mechanical secondary carb - is that all you would need?
This is not really an advanced question but here's the answer: no. Sorry. A Vac sec carb won't have a secondary side accelerator pump, pump arm or the passages and fittings in the secondary fuel bowl to support it. Also, the main body will also likely not even be drilled for a secondary-side accelerator pump squirter. Without a secondary side accelerator pump you'll get a massive bog whenever you smack the throttle open. There are other differences but the accelerator pump issue is the really tough one to get around because you're just flat missing a bunch of needed parts.
Ah OK that explains why the screw-in-the-linkage trick a mechanic showed me years ago caused so many problems lol. Looks like I'll have a coupla carbs for sale soon while I search for a pair of 4224 660's.
