"Tray" under LT1 intake... needed?

"Tray" under LT1 intake... needed?

Just wondering if i have to put the "tray" like thing under the LT1 intake back on or if its not that important. It looks like it has something to do with the PCV system...?

It also keeps oil from being entrained in the vapor flowing into the PCV system.
