Transmission lock-up solenoid has anyone had one of these go bad??

I brought my car into a couple of trans shops today and at a couple of the places I got the same results.I was told that its a trans lock-up solenoid were sometimes it goes into overdrive & sometimes it don't?? Also I have a 9" Vigilante torque converter (lock-up) so I thought it could be the converter but I was told it was NOT has anybody ever experienced these problems?

PLEASE HELP!

I'm really not too worried even if its the converter at least its NOT the trans.
