Question top end oiling problems

i have a 94 lt1 stroked with all compcams valvetrain excepting the lifters which are of unknown origin.problem is i am experiencing low or no oil in the valvecovers.with the valve covers removed there is no spraying or splashing that you would expect from the pushrods.oil pressure is good(20psi at idle,40 at 1k.)i will be replacing the lifters as soon as summit gets them here hoping that they are the kink in the system.im looking for ideas as to what else you guys think might be causing this problem or other things i should be checking while im in there.anything will help i want to cure this before i burn up my rockers or worse.

Welcome to the board!

If you can, please provide info on what vehicle/year/model/engine/mods you have so that we can help troubleshoot your problem.

Also when we find out more info on your application i'll move this over to the appropriate 'Tech' Forum as this really doesnt fit in the 'Adv Tech' section.

Thanks!

I am in the same place you are, have tried new lifters and everything you can think of. Look down by 6 and 8 rockers down through the small holes in the head gaskets. Do you see any oil spraying? I have been told by my machinist that either I have cracked an oil passage or the rear cam bearing has gave out. Also the back cam bearing is responsible for the pressure and flow down the oil galleries. Either way you better get ready for a teardown if the new lifters dont help. I will be taking my motor back apart so Ill keep you informed of what I find. Oh one more thing take a mechanical gage reading where your electrical sender screw in and see if the pressure is jumping around. Mine is going from 50 to 30 and back and is all over the place, but the pressure at my blower feed line is 60 all the time, hmmmmmmm. Good luck, I have been building small blocks a long time and I havent seen the top of the motor hold pressure and have no volume. Good luck

thanks for the info vx355.hopefully mine wont have to go that far.i tried to look down to the lifter valley under the intake through the opening in the head under the rocker cover but the only holes in my head gaskets are for the pushrods.couldnt see a damn thing.ill just wait til summit delivers and go from there.could this be caused by excessive lifter preload?just a thought,i went 3/4 of a turn past zero.also the pressure readings are from a mechanical guage and are fairly steady.any other ideas?im trying to stay away from tearing apart my 9,000 mile engine.ken, thanks for the welcome.i just registered but have been lurking here at cz28 for over a year and it is definitely the best out there.keep up the good work!sorry about the placement of the post but i thought i would bring my problem to the experts considering the lt1 forum doesnt usually dig much deeper than cold air intakes and cat-back exhausts(no offense lt1 guys.)thanks anyway and please keep the ideas coming.im ready to get back on the strip!

If the valve covers are off and you are setting there with the car at idle there wont be much oil at all squirting out of the pushrod..If you rev it to say 3-4k, then yes oil should be pushed up the pushrod and will go everywhere..At idle not much oil will be up top though..
