Timing

I've been having problems with timing my car. People told me i should just set total timing with it. I have a Vac Advance distributor so am i supposed to keep it connected and time the car? Or do i plug the advance and time it? Could someone give me some tips on timing> Thanks

Re: Timing

if you want to set the timing take the vac advance hose off the dist and plug it so you dont have a vac leak. then set your timing, vac advance isnt active under wot because of the extremely low vacuum.

He could have a MSD set up so as the mech advance is not all in until 4-4500 and it may be full advance at 38*. He may have to change the springs to get the initial timing right.
I agree, that you have to unhook the vacuum.
The factory does it for you and tells ya what to set the initial at.
