Is there a formula to figure out the horsepower limit of fuel injectors
Is there a formula to figure out the horsepower limit of fuel injectors
I think this qualifies for advanced but if not feel free to move it.
My girlfriend has an eclipse turbo that she wants to upgrade, but she doesn't want to have to buy new injectors and an afc. Is there a formula to determine how much power the stock injectors will support? The factory injectors on that car are 450cc's. I know there is a lot more to this answer like fuel pressure, etc., but I am looking for an estimate to compare to the estimated max output of the upgrade turbo's.
Sorry about the off F-body question, but if you think really hard I'm sure you can relate it somehow.

A good general rule of thumb is (hp*BSFC)/(# of injectors*0.80)
BSFC is brake specific fuel consumption which = lb fuel/hp/h. Typical value for a tubo is 0.55. 0.80 represents an 80% duty cycles, which is based on the fact that most brands of injector do not operate reliably when required to be open >80% of the time. To convert cc/m to lb/h, divide by 10.5.
So, 450cc injectors would be ~43lb/h, which would support ~70hp/injector or 280hp for 4 injectors. Keep in mind this is engine hp, not hp at the driving wheels.

Your going to like this: www.rceng.com/technical.htm this is nice because it will do the formula for you and has great information not mention RC has great injectors. They did up a custome set of injectors for my Hayabusa.
