Running rich 383

im jsut curiouse on how to test your injectros to see if they are bad... first off let me say that i have a 383 with -16cc pistons, le1 cam, le2 heads, 30#lb accel injecotrs, 58 mm tb, cai, bbk shorties. My car is running extremely rich, 3000 hydro carbons at 15 mph and 2500 at idle, and then 5.0% co at 5mph and 3.1 % at idle. And i have a madz28 tune, im either leaning towards my injecotrs being bad, a tune being off (alot), or my headers messing up my o2s. but id like to try by testing the injectors tomorrow if anyone has a way of doing this please tell me or anyother possible problems./

Re: testing injectors

There are machines for testing injectors similar to this one:

A good performance shop should have one, but it will cost ~$25/injector. So, it's not cheap. I don't know of any DIY way to test them.

Re: testing injectors

You can build your own testing system. I don't know how acurate it would be but i know there are some instructions out there on the internet by the same guys (bowling and grippo) that did the Megasquirt system. A google search would probably turn something up.

Re: testing injectors

You can test the ohms of the injectors, easy to do on the car. Do a search for the procedure and specs.

Re: testing injectors

I was having a problem with my race car over the weekend and just checked the injectors tonight at the shop. Two of them had significantly decreased flow, the screens were clogged with crap. We replaced the screens and voila! Problem solved. Unfortunately, I now have to figure out where the crap came from ;(

Here is our machine:

Re: testing injectors

My friend and i took the afr tonight from the DRIVER SIDE only.
Afr rpm
16.7:1 850 idle cold
12.9:1 850 idle warm
10.6:1 4500 mid rpm
12.5:1 wot

while driving from 1000 rpm-2500rpm i experinced a fluctuation of 12.8:1-14.7:1
this all seems normal to us, if it isnt please tell me.
tommorrow i plan on adding an o2 opening on the passenger side in order to get a reading. So from all this i think ive narrowed it down to a cat or something on the passenger side bank. Anyother ideas is greatly appreciated.

Re: testing injectors

Is this in closed loop? If so, I suspect bad O2 sensor(s). There is no way it should be 12.9:1 at idle or 10.6:1 in closed loop.
