Superram with ZZ-X cam, will it work well?

I currently have a 406 with Trickflow 23 degree heads, 1.6 rockers, ZZ-409 cam (287, 287 duration, 226, 226 .050 duration, .520, .520 lift, 112 LSA), TPIS 1.75 headers, cold air induction, Ported TPIS big mouth manifold, 10.0 compression, 52MM throttle body, 3.45 gears, and 3000 RPM stall speed. I am debating changing the cam to the ZZ-X cam that TPIS sells and I want to get some opinions on how this combination would work. The ZZ-X specifications are (290, 290 duration, 239, 239 .050 duration, .558, .558 lift, 112 LSA) and they appear to be similar to some of the solid roller cams that a few of the members are using to make good power in their larger SBC with Superrrams.

My goal is to pick up 40 RWHP with the cam change and an increase in compression to 11 : 1, but I am unsure if this cam will work because the Superram is RPM limited to about 6000 RPM due to runner length. This cam may kill off some of my bottom end HP and top end power if it is mismatched to the intake.

My current combination makes approx 420 RWTQ and 355 RWHP, to run low 11's I will need the 400 RWHP.

Please let me know what you think of the cam change, will it work with the Superram power band?

Thanks

why the dual pattern cams, no benefit from a little more exhaust duration?

Well for what my opinion is worth, you might want to run a Mini Ram II if you want to use that camshaft, or a modifide LT1 intake...they will be matched a little better...The superram has shorter runners than the TPI but it still wont touch the mini ram up top.

Just my .02...Good luck

I agree with ******. The mini ram would be a better choice.

For the dollar savings I would step up to a GM #12370847. This and a mini ram should put you over 400RWHP.

You might get away with just the cam and good port work on the TFS heads. With the cubic inches you have your peak should be around 6,000

Lets see what the experts have to say

The SuperRam is a bit long but something like a Stealth Ram is going to be shorter with a bigger cross section in the runners which would work good on your motor with a 240ish cam.

Your not going to get a ton of RPM out of the stock TFS heads anyways unless you have them ported and opened up to match the cubes under it, that means something with longer runners will work the best to get you the most TQ in the area where the heads work.

Thanks for the replies, I am still looking at cam options, possible head upgrades, and I still want to use the Superram. My Trick flow heads flow in the 250 range and I am either going to port them or buy new heads to get them in the 270 to 280 range.

They can get into the 285-300 range with porting and the right valves.
