Strange Engineering 12 Bolts...
ok, I'm not positive where this post should have gone as it is not LS1 or LT1 specific and I am new around here, it's more general drivetrain, and company related.
I ordered a strange 12 bolt over 61 days ago and have not received it yet, I just wanted to know if any of you guys have had any problems recently with strange or are in the same boat as I am, and if they are, have you been able to get any recourse from strange for the trouble this has been.
From what I understand strange is having trouble getting the HD posi unit from Eaton, or at least that is what I am told. Someone at strange said something about putting a different series gear and carrier in instead to get it out sooner, but I have absolutely no clue as to what that means and it really didn't sound good. If someone wouldn't mind explaining this to me I would greatly apreciate it.

Not the right forum - "Drag Racing" might have been the right one, but...
From my personal experience, Strange delivery is normally 1 to 2 months. When you buy the "super strength" posi unit, they have to wait until it is manufactured. They do not stock them, at least that is what they told me several years ago when I had a problem. I think the problem gets even worse if you order the 3-channel ABS option, because the reluctor gear is actually machined into the posi case, not just bolted on. I waited a month for my rear, and when it arrived, they had "forgot" to include the ABS reluctor. They replaced it willingly, but it took more than a month until they could get another carrier made.
4-series carrier with ABS reluctor
The 12-bolt comes with 2 different carrier "sizes".... 3-series and 4-series. This is pretty much the same as the stock 4th Gen.... in the 4th Gen, if you get 2.73 gears you get a 2-series carrier, if you get 3.23 or higher (numeric) gears you get a 3-series carrier. Then if you ever swap gear ratios, you have to make sure you get the gears made for the carrier you have.
I "think" the cross-over point on gear ratios between the 12-bolt 3-series and 4-series is 3.73 (check by looking at the gears in Summit or JEG's catalog). I know I bought mine originally with 3.73's and I thought it came with a 3-series, but when I went to swap in 4.10's it was a 4-series. I guess it would depend how high you want to go with gears.... something like a 4.56 might only fit in a 4-series, but I'm not sure.

Carrier sizes, I ordered it with 3.73 gears which are available with both 3 and 4 series carriers. The question really is what is the actuall difference especially in regards to survivability
I ordered my strange 12 bolt from Jegs and it took about 3-4 weeks. Installed it in car and it sounded like a turbine, called strange and they shipped out a new set of gears no charge.
The 12 bolt was there standard 12 bolt with abs reluctor, when we installed the replacement gears (worst pattern ever seen) found the rear had 33 spline axles, eaton posi, c clip eliminators, solid pinion crush washer, transition u joint was also included and it was also full of oil, (too bad they messed up on the gear install)
All in all it is a bolt in. I did'nt need to buy anything to put it in the car. The stock swaybar mounts and brackets all worked unlike a moser.
