Sollid roller cam help
building a sollid roller lt1 and not sure how to install them cam.
I have a cloyes true double roller so i can install it straight up, +4* or -4*.
My question is were should i install it? what are the pros and cons of the different installs?
THe cam is a single pattern, 244 duration, .611'' lift, and a 112 LSA.
THe heads are ported and flow 284 I/210 E @.600
The shortblock for the next year or so is stock, NO MORE THEN 6500 RPM!
Car is a street car, used for autocross and occationally dragracing. I WANT good top end, but NEED good low end. know what i mean? daily driver and all. want good vacume.
Secondary question is with the massive spring pressures, do i need to worry about spinning my cam bearings? should i used maybe thinker oil(sae 30wt) or beef up the oil pump?

straight up, as i am pretty sure the cam is advance ground into it. besides, technically anything chain adjustments you make like that will **** up injector timing(optispark is run off the cam)\
fyi, its gonna rev WAY over 6500.. way.
a similar cam in my 401ci motor was shifted at 7k or a little farther. you are gonna wanna shift at 7k. 6500rpm will be a 500rpm short shift.

At times it is difficult to have the cake and eat it too. Now, not buying the cow when the milk is free is a good thing but that's another story.
First off, the rpm peak is going to depend on the cylinder head and critical port area. I hate to use these words... but for a "smaller" cylinder port, that cam may very likely make peak power at say, 6700 rpm. A larger port... and the cam makes more hp at more rpm.
You don't mention the displacement, or maybe I missed it but this cam in a 350 should be a 7k shifter. If all is well, it should also make 550 bhp with more than 450 lbs-ft from 3000 rpm on up... preferably more.

550 horse pwer huh? hope so... looking for at least 425 rear wheel altho i have been told more???.
This year i couldn't afford to beef up the lower end yet. So yes it is a low mile LT1 shortblock.
I take my current near stock LT1 to 6500 rpm, and that about what i have heard other people set the rev limiters to on a stock bottom end. I wanna build a very nice 355 shortblock and take it to maybe 7500 or 8k if possible, but i do realize the PCM will not alowthat.
The reason for this post originally was to see if i could move the rpm range down becuz i ken it was a high reving cam
I thought this was actully a "milder" cam then most solids... like durations is 244...same as a hyd cc306 and the lift if not much larger. And solid roller do act smaller then hyd of the same size.

If you want more low end grunt and not as many RPM, but you are willing to build up the bottom end, then why not go with a stroker? The under 4" strokes should have no problem revving up to 7 grand. Heck, folks drag racing 454s and 502s with 4" strokes have revved over 7k with no problems.

But since timing is measured with reference to TDC if your timing reference (opti-spark) is out of sync with your crank (because of an adjustable timing gear or bushed cam dowel) then your timing will also all be off.
This can be compensatetd for with tuning of course, but why do it? Just get the cam ground the way you want it in the first place and have it verified on a cam doctor.
