I've seen some interesting stuff that's setup like that, chambers larger than the bore. They aren't turbulent and they have made some NHRA records.... confused me too, but then I asked the source.

Right on man. The guy who did the heads has extensive experience porting. You could see before milling where the head gasket was traced and the entire chamber fit inside the gasket. There is quite a bit of polishing done and some work (minor) done around the spark plug.

Did they notch the bore to get rid of the wall? Kinda like what you see on a 396 BBC bore? We do that on nissan L6 motors, and the flow numbers work well with a bore smaller than the chamber, but I don't see how you could not have turbulance without removing the step...also, most of those NHRA motors are blown, I would assume that positive pressure has a huge effect on turbulance and/or proper flow.

The smallest dome out there is 8CC and ya need 2-3CC for 12/1. Get a set of 8's and have the machine shop cut them down to 2CC's. Somewhere around here I have the weight of metal to cut off per CC.Ya can get that figure too. Ya weigh the piston and cut, then weight it and cut again. Time consuming on the first one but the rest are a breeze.
I needed 4CC with my 62CC heads and that is what I had to do.

Don't think ya should be running a .026 gasket with a .000 deck on the street--- won't work. If ya aren't .000 decked ya should be. With 4CC valve reliefs,60CC heads, .039 gasket and .000 deck ya will be 11.79 with a 75* IVC a smaller cam will be more.

Great guys. Awesome info. Yeah, I'm running .012 in the hole with the .026 gasket. BTW, the block has been notched ever so slightly on the intake side so I need to account for that area too ! Thanks for reminding me. I may just get the pistons, massage the tops a bit and toss 'em in.

You run nitrous?

JE has a nitrous piston with a 3cc dome. For that matter any piston maker can get the dome volume you want. If you do decide to buy a larger dome and cut it down you might want to look for a solid dome design.

All this talk of domes and static comp, yet we know nothing of the dynamic comp you're trying to achieve. For all the trouble and considering a street engine app., I might give up a few tenths of compression for a flat top but that's just me.

Do you already have the cam picked out? If so... what is it's IVC?

Ya can get Probe,JE or any piston manufacturer to make anything ya want if ya got the money.
The 8CC were Probe off the shelf and I didn't want to spend 7-800+ dollars on a custom set. If ya hurt 1 ya got to buy at least 4 to have 1 made. In that respect it pays to get 10 to start with but it is pricy.

SRP is a 7cc off the shelf, not a big difference, but just throwing it out there.

Re: Soes anyone make a small dome piston for LT1's?

When I posted this question, I was hoping off the shelf ones could be found. I do know that piston companies can make about anything you want at a price! Trickflow makes a big deal about how their combustion chamber shape will accomodate a common dome. I was under the impression that the combustion chamber shape of the LT1 limited the off the shelf selections. It sounds like it's not that big a deal though I guess which is good!

Nope, not notched but that would help. This is on NA motors too.

As for the domes... Why?
