Single plane intakes on LT1...my results
Re: Single plane intakes on LT1...my results
Joe:
Thanks for the input. If there is a simpler solution such as an Accel unit by all means I am interested.
Oddly enough, I actually just tried calling you, but no one picked up...I used the # from your website which I was peeking around on earlier.
As for fuel rails, thats good too if everything comes fitted, I drew up some simple schematics for an Aeromotive dual feed system, using 6AN line throughout. Can I get the rails with fittings to accomodate a system like this?
Any idea on price range? The Vic Jr is only $306, and the rails are $79...4bbl tb from Accufab - $500
My email is bhertz99@aol.com if you need to discuss price in a private manner, or PM me, I am anxious to hear you input. Also - about the 30# injectors, yay or nay for a single plane on HC 350?

Re: Single plane intakes on LT1...my results
price wise you'll probably come out the same if not lil cheaper since you wont have to weld bungs...only cost you'll have is the cost of redrilling new intake holes since the intake bolt pattern is different for lt1 heads..Other than that it bolts right up after that....the TB either way you go uses a 3rd gen style tps and IAC which you have to splice to the correct pinouts... 30's I'd say would be ok depending on what other mods your doing....thats a tough call to make without knowing more details... I'll be here till around 9pm if want to try and call again..was working on a ls1 cam head swap so I was lil more preoccupied than if it were a lt1 ...LOL
Re: Single plane intakes on LT1...my results
Joe, I think you are forgetting which lower intake I am using...Edelbrock already "EFI'ed" the Vic Jr, so welding inj bungs is not an issue...
It seems like the throttle body will either make or break the budget...Accufab makes a 1215cfm piece for $500...I have seen some 4bbl tb's go for $700, so we'll see how it goes...You are correct though about the intake bolts being retapped...it turns out that the middle ones are the ones that are misaligned with the LT1 heads...Other than that, what other challenges are there going to be? You as well as HRH mentioned the pins being reversed to account for the opposite rotation of the blades...Supposedly the accufab piece supports the LT1 vacuum lines...
Thanks, I am running over to Bryan Herter [pcmforless.com] this afternoon to discuss some single plane tuning...it's nice having him right down the road

This was some good reading. And i would like to say that I bought my cam/springs combo from SStrokerAce. He was very very helpful and i am extreamly happy with the way the car runs. I will be going back to him for my next cam.
Re: Single plane intakes on LT1...my results
One question on this topic. So the price mentioned was $150 to convert the heads to fit the intake. I would rather have the intake converted to fit the heads. How much would i be looking at for machine work for that. I am trying to see what this whole conversion is going to cost. Here is what i have so far. What else is needed? I know the set up will need a new cam but that will have to wait.
Victory efi intake $309.39
Rails $78.99
Accufab TB $519.99
Machine work $???
Total $908.37 + machine work and tunning.

There are a couple of guys using a single plain manifold on the corvette forum. The manifold was developed by one of the forum members to be an alt. to the mini ram/Super ram options for the TPI cars and is in a stock configuration (Ie TB in front ect..). The intake did prety good in inital testing but I feel it was held back because the motors where desinged to work with the super ram and the cam selection and gears where not matched to the RPM range of the intake. Two of the people using this now have motors more matched to the single plain and are running in the mid 10's. Here are a few of the links on the intake

I like that upper plenum on the Corvette guys stuff...Question is how would it fit under a 4th gen hood?? Maybe something to consider though, especially on a FI project!!

If you are doing a single plane a Wilson 90mm TB, Wilson Elbow and a Edelbrock Victor EFI is probably the cheapest way to go once you convert the intake over.
Still it's not plug and play plus you aren't getting it under a stock hood.

I followed the development of that intake prety close and am not sure what you mean. The first one was prety scary looking as it was a prototype but all the others that have been produced seem to be of nice quality. There are probably better and cheaper solutions for the F-bods but for the C4 corvette there is just not anything that would fit under a stock hood. Here is the latest link for one of the single plain guys (Corkevette1). Take a look at Ski_dwn_it post and you can get a good look at the final product. I have no vested interest in this product as I have a LT1 but it did seem like a good alternative for the TPI corvette guys to give them a choice other then the super/mini ram

Re: Single plane intakes on LT1...my results
One of those intakes cut way down into the runners with little thought to port entry and flow, it was done purely on getting it under the hood. Mounting a box on top of the carb opening is a good idea, just doing it the right way is key. I'm not sure if the one you worked with was the "scary" one but i'd have to see under that box to tell.

You may be correct on those guys cutting it to make it fit under the hood. As I said I dont use or never have used that intake but man those guys are putting down some impresive all Motor #s for a TPI based motor here are the numbers cork ran this weekend 131.63

hate to keep this thread alive but, just put on the new Victor EFI. I'm going with the Accufab Tb. I'm running Fast for the computer. My question is, do I need to re-pin the tps sensor?? Or do the blades open up the correct way?? Also, I still need fuel rails for this car. Does Edlebrock make rails for there new EFI intake?? What's the part number. I think someone posted the part number already so I'll have to go back and look.

If you use a vic E with a wilson elbow and a 90mm tb and a little work it will fit under a stock 4th gen hood.
