SBC head converted to LT1 head?

Has anyone successfully done this? Myself and a friend that is a machinist think it is possible. We are sure we will have to use a LT4 intake for the larger runners, we also talked about making a crossover pipe on the intake instead of having it on the back of the heads. The bolt holes on the intake are different, but a little welding and drilling will fix that. The coolant holes need to be enlarged to match the block. Are we crazy or is this possible?

it is possible, becuase i know that Matt Antonelli from North Jersey Racing told he can convert Brodix heads to LT1 style and i guess he will do what you mentoined to convert the Brodix heads to LT1 reverse cooling. but maybe you still need to drill the 2 holes at the back of the heads.

Yeah, but you are kicking youself in the nuts if you are going to run a LT4 intake. A single plane or a sheetmetal is really worth it.

It's not to hard to do actually.

Drop me a e-mail.

Nah, 665 hp/557 lbs-ft was the last call on my engine with everything finally in place. Not bad for a factory LT4 intake modded out the wazoo. Buy a custom and you're looking at ~$2500. I bought the LT4 for $50 at a swap meet and spent some $600 in porting and machining to make it work on a 15* head. Worked-over... the intake flows some ~330cfm so I don't think it's hindering things much at all. Yeah, a longer runner would have been nice but I'm not looking back at this point.

And if Jon is reading this (he asked me about the intake I'm using in another thread but never heard back from him)... the RR Edelbrock intakes won't work on a 15* head. You need an intake specific to 18* heads and a little modification.
A departure from the normal stuff most people are familiar with... unless you do the race thing.

I am having a set of Pro-Action 235's converted as we speak, yes the intake side needs some changes, also the oil return holes have to be re-worked, I sent an old LT1 head the West Coast cylinder head to have all of the stuff copied, Richard is also modding a LT4 intake to go with it. Mindgame can I have some specs on the monster you built?? I am doing a solid roller 383 hoping for 600/620 FWHP.

Details will be coming but.... videos are a maybe. Right now my main concern is getting the car back together and getting it on a chassis dyno. Then we can tweak a few things, run her at the track and make some more adjustments.
Al in all, we're probably looking at 7k shifts and pump gas. Gotta get a rear-end under the car too. It's on the way. Other than that, she's about ready for blast off.
