The SB2 LT1 is together.....

It should go on the dyno this Friday. Here are some pics from the engine shop. Please ignore the factory accesory bracket and hardware. The vacuum pump is the only thing in these pics I'm using. I have an MSD alternator and a Jones Racing power steering pump with a built in tank going on it.

That looks sweet man. Off topic question for you. You said you are going to be running a jones racing power steering pump, where does it mount? where can i get one? How much do they cost? Sorry for all of the questions, but I have been trying to find a power steering pump and mounting for a bit now.

Looks awesome Dave!! Glad you finally got it together and ready to go! What do you think it's going to make?

Where'd you pick the SB2.2 stuff up at? Did you use old NASCAR parts?

Re: The SB2 LT1 is together.....

Thanks guys. The answers to your questions:

1. http://www.jonesracingproducts.com/cntc.html Take a look at the pumps and the brackets page. I'd like to tell you how it works but I haven't mounted it yet.

2. I would really like it to make 750 at the crank n/a. I think I might be a little small on the throttle body though. I'm running a vacuum pump but only at about 7". I will be happy if it makes anything over 700.

3. Yes, a NASCAR parts warehouse in the Carolina's. We had to dig up some parts and do some additional work to them but it was a good deal overall. They came from Petty racing. Actually, it was dirt cheap compared to new SB2 stuff.

Barely. It's about a 12.75-1 compression. With a little creative tuning on the Gen 7 it should run on the street on 94 sunoco but I won't be getting on it hard. I wanted to do a pump gas type motor but the only way to do that and make big power is with a turbo which doesn't work to well on the road course so I went with higher compression and nitrous.

That can is long since deceased and to answer the question, I have no idea. We did a complete go through of them though and everything was fine. We did get new Del West Ti valves with them and changed to a different spring.

Re: The SB2 LT1 is together.....

Dave,

My inspiration for the new build was born after stepping into a 97 Camaro with a 434 sb2-head gen1 engine in it. Very smooth, smoother than this ~550rwhp Z06 and with ~75 more hp at the rear tires. Very nice daily driver manners too.

So, it can be done... even with a good deal of static compression (& ideal dynamic comp ).

The build looks like it's coming along nicely. Can't wait to see everything in the car and buttoned up.

Good luck.

Re: The SB2 LT1 is together.....

Thanks MG. I just hope it makes at least 700 at the crank. I originally thought 750. I have doubts that I have the compression right and I'm still concerned about the throttle body size. We'll see.....

Re: The SB2 LT1 is together.....

That engine will most likely want a 4500 series throttle body. Won't take long to find out though.

Let us know how she does man. I'm rooting for ya just for the simple fact that you have the ***** to try something different.
