Roller Cam

I have an '85 chevy 350 with a solid flat lifter cam in it right now. Is there anything special that I would have to do to install a roller cam/lifters? Thanks.

You'll need to use lifters meant for this retrofit, not ones for '87 and newer blocks originally machined to accept roller lifters.

Depending on the block casting, you may have to machine some iron off the top of the lifter bore area to clear the lifter tie bars. Haven't checked on production block of this area, but a bowtie block often requires it. Ask the tech reps at a few cam companies.

Anyone else here on the forum ever had an interference problem?

have a 355 with a crower roller with .643 inches of lift (with 1.5 rockers) on intake and exhaust it has 1.6 jesel rockers and never had a problem so i am not sure what size the lift is with 1.6's but i bet its a lot more. you just have to buy all new springs lifters etc etc etc

Comp Cams link bars are high and on the inside. I have not seen a first gen 350 have any clearance problems.

Don't forget to use a cam button. If you use a steel cam remember to check and see if it requires a bronze dist drive gear.
