Pushrod length
Pushrod length
When doing the H/C setup...I notice some builders recommend aftermarket hydraulic roller lifters and others don't. #1 is this necessary, #2 are custom length pushrods going to be necessary? Some of the same said builders recommend measuring for pushrod lenght for correct geometry, while others recommend a 7.XX length and roll with it. I need some opinions. My simple mind says what good will measuring do unless you have a custom set of pushrods made, how can you adjust that length, I mean the lifters are fixed, the cam can't move so how do you adjust this?
Re: Pushrod length
Aftermarket lifters aren't necessary, just make sure yours are in good working condition.
Measuring PR length isn't necessary either but you should do it. The tool is like $15 bucks and once you know the correct length you spend another $35-$40 from Summit and you're done. You're right the cam and lifters are "fixed" measurement per say, but when you do a H/C most of the time the heads are milled and if you are rebuilding the block is usually decked as well which of course will change the length of the PR because it brings the heads closer in. Having PR's "made" isn't really an issue because they are already out there and are fairly cheap.
