Post pushrod ? about an olds motor

my friend has a 85 olds 307. he needed new lifters, so he went ahead and put a crane powermax cam kit in. And new oem rocker arms(non roller) and pushrods. Problem now is, even with the rockers tightened all the way down, there's still about .250 valve lash...a lot. The rockers have a metal bridge between each intake and exhaust rocker. The cam says it's for up to an '84, but i dont think that has anything to do with it. and the car has no computer or the original electronics stuff. Does it just need longer pushrods? or what. I know this isn't a cutlass msg board. but im sure most of you could help me out on this one. Thanx

Have you tried a pushrod length checker yet?

those olds motors are crazy. Do some research and you find that the 84 motor has a taller deck height or something like that. If he wants more power a 455 fits nice in there and most of the accessories match right up(i just did one). You may want to try push rods out of an 84

85 up olds engines were hydraulic roller engines with .921 dia lifters. The 84 & earlier used .842 lifters. The cams are the same. Early engines had non-adjustable rockers & 8.328" lg. pushrods. If you have 85 up pushrods, they are most likely too short.... I do not have their measurements. You will need to verify that a .921" hydraulic lifter is the same height as a .842 hydraulic unit. Crane recommends bushing the lifter bores to the .842 on these engines. You may be OK if you get custom pushrods & verify that both lifters have the oil groove on the outside of the lifter in the same position....otherwise you will starve them for oil. Hope this helps.

Thanx a million man. He's been relying on the idiots at o'reilly auto parts to tell him what's wrong. Will it work out if he just buys a set of oem lifters? instead of having bushings and pushrods made? Thanks again

If the car originally had a roller cam, no you cannot use roller lifters on a flat tappet cam. If it was a flat tappet cam motor, what is the lifter diameter?
