properly designed quench region
I haven’t done anything with out the grooves in a couple of years so I decided to build a mild 355 with these topline 220s to see if I can accomplish similar results by other means (all suggestions are welcome). I ran it last weekend; it did well but broke the T350 transmission. Guess what I'm doing today.

I've seen almost every iron aftermarket head out there. Currently we are using the pro-topline (RHS) 23* heads and having great success. What I really want to do is get a pair of Bowtie Vortech heads and fix them the way we do the RHS stuff make everything equal and swap them A to B and see if there is any difference. But we have to find a client willing to spend the extra bucks. Thats going to be difficult with the "Crate-Motor" invasion around here.
By the way I stoped in over at another forum and saw some of your posts. Thats a very interesting place. Did you listen to the F-1 engines? I noticed that Larry Widmer is also posting there too.

Make sure you check everything on those RHS heads before you start cutting on them, I have had to send back 8 individual heads over the last year due to core shift, misplaced rocker stud holes, intake ports that don't match in their shape, etc. This was mostly when the switch-over from topline to rhs occured, but still be carefull. Aside from that, awesome head for the money.
First rule about Speedtalk is that you do not talk about Speedtalk - borrowed from LR
Where the heck is LR? Haven't seen him on here in months.

- That's awsome.Last post I saw from him was in a compression ratio thread. Hopefully he is busy with some new high horsepower innovation.

Dick Sweat an old timey engine builder in Oklohoma City refuses to use any after-market heads because of that fact. Right now he's building all iron flat top engines that make 570 with no porting other than what he does in the bowls with a cartridg roll. He says that when he puts the after-market heads on with the same C/R the engine loses power.
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it

Agreed on speedtalk, too many morons over there now asking about what cam they should put in their flat tappet 383... then when you start a real topic nobody says squat on there but if you talk to them on the phone you get a lot more answers.... IF you know them.

I've talked to him until I get blue in the face and he refuses to accept the fact that we can make moer power than that if he will just try something else on the same engine, on the same day. As far as dyno stuff is concerned he works with DTS, helps people that buy DTS systems install the stuff and build the room correctly.
He's no dummy - he's just hard-headed. If you're famillier with oval-track racing you will remember Prototype Racing Engines it was he and Ron Niel that developed those engines and the road racing engines for the Chevy Monza's.

Yeah some old guys are hard to convince otherwise on things... they get it in their head that an idea will not work, but they never actually ask the engine if it likes it.... If you don't go by the mantra that the motor will tell me what it likes reguardless of rules you will never advance your work.
