Problems with running a carb and opti
Looking for some info on the problems that will be had when running a carb on a LT1 with the opti as ignition.
I am still a bit vague as to where the opti gets its signal from. My car is 93 so there should be some less problems at hand then a MAF car but what am i looking at.
Do i need to fool the car so that it believes the opti is still there. I want to run a carb but without a conventional distributer on the rear of the intake. What other alternatives do i have without putting a aftermarket setup that is costly?

I think the only way to get it to work is with a crank trigger. Why keep the opti? I am curious? A billet distributor is cheaper then an opti-spark.

Already have a few brand new opti's and to drop the distributer i will have to pull the engine likely or drop the k-member a bit to get the engine low enough. Car is already complete and running with a setup i want but i want to do away and experiment with the carb.
Does anyone know what the opti uses as a reference on a 93 or what do most batch systems work off of?

All you have to do to get a dist. in there is pull the intake.
There is no logical reason to keep that POS on the car.
You can use a crank trigger set-up OR a front mount dist (but they are costlier).
FWIW: Vince has a carb and billet dist. on his LT1 95 Camaro.
I have a crank trigger in my 93 TA.
Good luck and welcome to the outlaws of the 4th gens. LOL

The optispark consists of a camshft postition sensor and a distributor (cap/rotor).
You should be able to run with the carb and not worry about the FI harness being plugged in. Personally, I'd just run a regular ole 350 SB/ZZ4 if a carbed engine were my taste.
