Position of Exhaust crossover
Position of Exhaust crossover
Hey guys, I have been wanting to put a crossover in my 2.5" true duals, but have not yet because I have not been able to find any good information about what if any difference the location of the crossover makes. I can't weld, so I would need to take it someplace, so I would only like to do it once.
Is there a science to this, or am I just overthinking it??
Thanks.

No one has posted and the topic hasn't been moved so I'll
attempt to chime in...
I tried looking for the website I remember from a while ago covering this but couldn't find it...
To start - I don't have dual exhaust and am certainly not a mechanic so...
Here's what little I remember about shadetree H-Pipe positioning; using regular old spraypaint, spray a line on both exhaust pipes lengthwise from the end of the cats (not on them) back for about 18 inches, then run the car (or drive it) to heat up the exhaust system - where the paint is burned of most is where the H -Pipe will do the most good.
Any GOOD exhaust shop should know how to do this (My local Meineke does work for guys with offroad run 4x4's and quite afew have H-pipes).
The most obvious result is a mellower sound (because of the H-Pipe's affect on the exhaust pulse?) and depending on how it's done a gain in torque OR horsepower - not sure about that last bit.
There are a couple of guys here running true duals and hopefully they'll post their experiences/knowledge.
Either way I hope this helps at least a little - Good Luck either way,

I am really interested in this also. I'm using an x not an h but I'm sure the theory is applicable to either. I did not think it would have an impact on power.. I thought the positioning would primarily effecting the sound/tone. Can anyone shed some light?
I dont know remember where I heard this from. I was out of a mustang form or a mag cant remember, but they said optimal postion is 18 in after the collector is where the x-pipe should be. But they said that was impossible bcuz it would interfear with the transmission.
