Oxygen sensor failure problems (3set in 6 months)

what's the deal keep on I keep on losing my Oxygen sensor from 800 to 1000 miles

my set up is a 383 cc305 cam procharger (12 pounds ) with hooker long .. this car is well tuned and from my scan master i do not see any strange blips on the radar tha would lead to a failure ... i heard of guys with long tubes also having this problem or maybe it has nothing to do with that supercharger and has more to do with the long tube set up this is getting kinda expensive.... please help (using AC delco 02's) any other 02 out there that woudl last longer ??? or am i missing something

Are you using leaded fuel?

What kind of coolant do you use?

What, if anything, do you put on the threads when you install them?

Is there any external contamination of the sensors by oil or other fluids?

What fails/what are the symptoms, codes? Heater circuits, or sensing elements? Slow switching, no signal, etc????

Hi Fred,

You saw the car last week good running conditon...

50/50 mix dexcool stuf
no leaded fuel
no contamination from the last ones i pulled out (a little dark but nothing abnormal)

basicly i noticed that the car was not running right after the long tri back from the meet from last week and i noticed on my scan master the the right 02 sensor was getting lazy only showing from 100 to 700mv but very slow... Then after that started to happen the block learns and fuel trim where off etc (basicly one side would show rich then the other side would show lean... so basily i pulled both plugs on the 02 sensor reset the pcm and the car runs like a champ again ... (just a little rich and gas mpg suck know when i run around town) but claude has gone through a few sets also after the long tubes where installed.....

also i check the plugs they are in great conditon autolite 104's gapped .35

My right side O2s are also reporting low by about .200 mV.

But, I do use leaded racing fuel and change out the O2s regularly.

Any grounding problems or something anyone's aware of?

All my problems started with the pacesetters and Bosch O2s.

I never had a problem with manifolds and Delco O2s using all the same dope and leaded fuel.

I solder my O2 extension wires in place. Would the "connector extension" be better?

Did you use any of that red rtv in your set up at all? I learned from the permatex guy that somthing in it ruins o2 sensors. They want to take it off the market but people keep buying it so they keep making it.

GreasyB:
"Did you use any of that red rtv " ... what red rtv is that? The GE RTV #159?

The Permatex "Ultra Copper" #101BR is marked as "sensor-safe" and "won't harm oxygen sensors"
