Opti internals in rear mount distributor?

I was wondering if it would be possible to put opti internals(wheel, sensor and such) in a rear mounted distributor? I am wanting to drill my intake and install a distributor like the 96-99 Vortec engines use to replace the high voltage side of the opti. This distributor has a sensor in it(hall effect). I did a search and I couldn't find anything on this type of conversion.

there are a few guys runnin the vortec distributor , it has the same internals and the lt1 front mount opti distributor. I'm pretty sure the price is even the same at the gm dealers, too.. I thought i read that the connector is even the same.

Who are the people running the vortec distributor? Pics? Links? The opti uses a sensor that reads a 360 degree signal and the vortec one uses a 180 degree signal. The opti has 4 wires and the vortec uses 3. I am looking at an old opti right now tocompare the sensors They look like they attach in a similar manner. I have been thinking about this for a couple weeks. I am supposed to pic up a vortec distributor tomorrow. I would really appreciate any info or pics anyone has.

I must not have paid enough attention to the post. I read it several times and all I got out of it was a statement of quality concerning the FAST system and pics that showed reinforcing the rotor on an opti. I am not trying to be smart, but did I miss something?

someone did exactly what you are asking years ago.....put the opti internals on a truck dist or something.

Injuneer probly remembers it, he is good with those types of electrical things. I just remember seeing it

I believe it was Speartech. I have some pics saved on my computer somewhere that I found on thirdgen.org. Here it is. Post 7 and 142.

You missed what the opti is capable of despite everyone's blind insistance it is garbage.

I am not saying it is garbage. I am just looking for alternatives. I have a new opti now and it is working fine. I can't justify buying a delteq or a LTCC due to cost. I am willing to fabricate parts to attain my goal. This is just something to consider down the road. Rearend upgrade is my primary concern.

Exactly what are your goals. Why they would require fabricating a new distributor instead of running oem?

I want something that is reliable and easy to work on. I am doing research now to assess my options. I don't have a problem with the opti, but I do like to keep my options open.
